WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton’s presidential dreams were undermined by her use of a private email server that included classified information.
Donald Trump has risked criminal charges by refusing to return top-secret records to the government after leaving the White House.
And now misplaced files with classified markings could cause a political headache for President Joe Biden.
The three situations are far from equivalent. But taken together, they represent a remarkable stretch in which document management has been a recurring source of controversy at the highest levels of American politics.
For some, it’s a warning about clumsiness or hubris when it comes to handling official secrets. For others, it’s a reminder that the federal government has built an unwieldy — and perhaps unmanageable — system for storing and protecting classified information.
“Mistakes happen, and it’s so easy to grab a stack of documents from your desk as you’re leaving your office, and you don’t realize there’s a classified document among those files,” said Mark Zaid, a lawyer who works on national security issues. “You just didn’t hear about it, for whatever reason.”
Now Americans are hearing about it all the time. Political talk shows have been clogged with conversations about which papers were stashed in which box in which closet. Voters are getting schooled in intelligence jargon like TS/SCI, HUMINT and damage assessments.

President Retard has controversy running out his butt
How CARELESS!!
You knew the “mistakes happen” excuse would be all over the news.
“Mistakes were made” is the magic phrase that erases all political (and legal) sins......................
This ultimately will (again) reflect badly on Merrick Garland and the DOJ/FBI
In Garland and the DOJ’s KGB-like zeal to pursue Trump, they created a huge spectacle, which their own puppet is now guilty of.
The situaions are far from equivelant.
In the case of Trump, he knew where the documents were and had them stored safely. With Biden, he had carelessly abandoned some the documents in an unoccupied office at a university, and left some in his garage, and forgotten about them.

The abuse of the language to support 'The Narrative' is horrific.
AP be TP, but hardly as useful.
Nice to see that AP is reporting this so evenhandedly /s
“Hillary Clinton’s presidential dreams were undermined by her use of a private email server that included classified information.” Ah, it was really the server’s fault, not hers.
“Donald Trump has risked criminal charges by refusing to return top-secret records...” Donald Trump, criminal charges, refusing...
“And now misplaced files with classified markings...” You see, the files were just misplaced, no one did anything wrong...
“Mistakes happen, and it’s so easy to grab a stack of documents from your desk as you’re leaving your office, and you don’t realize there’s a classified document among those files,” said Mark Zaid”
Here we go.

Three examples are provided but one detail is omitted and that is that only Trump had the authority to declassify any and all documents he possessed at the time he obtained them. Hillary Clinton had no authority and was an egregious violator. Biden could have asked Obama to declassify for him, but apparently he didn’t bother. But you can’t use the same standard for Democrats as you do for Republicans. A Democrat without authority it’s a mistake error but for a Republican with authority it’s a crime.
Hillary Clinton’s presidential dreams were undermined
Because most of the sane AND insane people actually hate her.
My question is why the gov is printing out all these classified documents? Who prints that much anymore? I can count on 1 hand the number of pages I printed in my office over the last 12 months.
Yep. When it involves Trump, obviously, it’s his fault and the greatest crime since Watergate.
When it’s Biden, well, the system is flawed, outdated, broken and impossible for anyone to comply with.
“My question is why the gov is printing out all these classified documents?”
Probably to make it easier for them to be handed off to the Chinese without leaving an electronic trail behind.
Are they just making up new sh*t now? They are trying to shift the narrative from merely possessing them to 'refusing to give them back'. Unlike Biden who is giving them back, I suppose, which makes it OK that he had them in the first place?
first it was “a few FBI files”… then “a dozen”…then “as many as twenty FBI files”…finally “more than 900 files”
Waiting for number of Classified docs to be “updated”.
The three situations are far from equivalent.
Two democrats not guilty with evidence one Republican guilty with no evidence
Associated Press translation for those who don’t know how D.C. and the media operate.
Never trust a democrat
