Banning gas stoves gets Americans’ blood boiling
The Hill ^ | 01/12/2023 | LIZ PEEK, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR

Sometimes it’s the little things – the one indignity too many – that cause people to revolt. Banning new gas stoves, as a commissioner on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has suggested, could be the diktat that finally brings Americans to rebel against the government’s incessant, autocratic and ultimately insulting intrusion into our daily lives.

The European Union found that out the hard way. Just weeks before the British went to the polls to vote on whether they wanted to remain in the EU, reports leaked that the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels planned to ban electric teakettles that were a staple of British kitchens, because they used too much electricity.

For Americans that might not sound like a big deal, but for the average Brit, already incensed that some 80 percent of new regulations were flowing from Brussels and not Parliament, it was the last straw. The proposed limits on small appliances would have meant that the time required to boil water would have increased from an average two minutes and 30 seconds to five minutes. For a country consuming 62 billion cups of tea each year, that was an affront.

Polling shifted in favor of Brexit, and indeed Great Britain shocked the world in June 2016 by voting to leave the EU.

Getting rid of restaurants meshes nicely with their newest effort to get rid of all food.

Gas stove tops can boil water much faster than electric.

My 20-something daughter, who is a brainwashed lib, loves to cook. In her apartment she has an electric stove and doesn't like it because it takes so long to boil water. She told me her next living quarters MUST have a gas stove.

When the time comes and she is told NO, you cannot have a gas stove, I wonder how she'll react. My guess is she'll accept it and move on without seeing the bigger picture.

Barbecue Rule Adopted to Take a Bite Out of Smog

October 6, 1990

Moving their battle against smog to back-yard barbecues and beach cookouts, Southern California air quality officials Friday adopted the nation’s only rule intended to force consumers to use environmentally sound ways to cook outdoors.

Smog-causing barbecue equipment--including traditional types of lighter fluid and pre-soaked briquettes--must be removed from store shelves in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties by January, 1992, under the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s new rule.

“It’s a very small bite (in smog), but it’s a necessary one,” said Marvin Braude, an AQMD board member and Los Angeles city councilman. “We must regulate individuals’ activities. . . . This is a genuine and important aspect of cleaning the air.”

The regulation marks one of the first times that Southern California consumers have been required to change their habits to clean the region’s notoriously smoggy air. But it will not be the last. Sixteen other polluting household products--from bug spray to air fresheners--will be targeted by the state Air Resources Board next week.

Might be too late, government has gotten too big, too out of control, and all it will take is another good narrative or outrage, and they will forget all about the attempts to ban this or that by administrative fiat.

Blah, blah, blah. It’s going to happen, with little pushback from the people.

There is one way to stop this nonsense - vote for people who will change the laws and reign in the regulatory agencies. Until Americans do that, they will continue to get this nonsense. Banning gas stoves still is on the bureaucrats’’ agenda. It will just be done in a more stealthy way.

Have the Republicans in the House put forth legislation Banning any and all taxpayer funds from being used to purchase Natural Gas or Propane??

WHY NOT?
Force them to live up to their own dogma.

Someone from the Hill is reporting about “diktats” and “rebelling”? And it was printed?

How can this be?

Throw the bums out! These greenie bums are the worst. You know, the ones feeding at the public trough while “working” from home and doing nothing useful.

I hate my electric stove. I was raised on gas...my daughter was, too...and she got a gas stove when they built their house in 1992.

Wishful thinking that this would be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
