USC’s School of Social Work is removing the word “field” from its curriculum and practice, arguing that it “could be considered anti-black or anti-immigrant” to say someone is “going into the field” or conducting “field work.” The university explains, “our goal is not just to change language but to honor and acknowledge inclusion and reject white supremacy, anti-immigrant and anti-blackness ideologies.”
“We have decided to remove the term ‘field’ from our curriculum and practice and replace it with ‘practicum.’ This change supports anti-racist social work practice by replacing language that could be considered anti-black or anti-immigrant in favor of inclusive language,” a letter from the Practicum Education Department read.
The letter was shared by Houman David Hemmati, a board-certified MD Ophthalmologist and Ph.D. research scientist, who said the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work “will no longer use the word ‘field’ (as in ‘conducting field work’) because it’s perceived as racist.”

When you find yourself lost for words, just say "practicum".
Seriously this stuff is getting far out in left practicum. How about "community work" or "territory". Or would territory be anti-Native American?
Because no white man or woman has ever so much as broken a sweat in a field. Reject the woke and the woke nonsense.

How long before they declare “THE” racist because it’s the “definite” article and definiteness is from “White Supremacy”?
USC: University of South Carolina or University of Southern California?
USC needs to abolish itself.
“University” is a blatant racist concept dating back to the lilly-white European Middle Ages.
“Southern” is blatant support of slavery.
“California” was chosen as a name for the state by white imperialist colonialists.
Btw—they need to turn off their electricity at the “university” now—by using electricity they are culturally appropriating the evil white man’s technology.

All those years as a youth working on that blueberry farm and I never knew it was racist. Thought it was just earning a wage in honest work.

But it’s a $5 Latin-derived word rather than the 50 cent Germanic word it’s replacing. Minorities might feel intimidated by it.
