Article was handed to various media outlets by someone who tries to play this negatively, as dissension and drama….

but shows Putin is in charge of military decisionmaking, not Kadryov or Prigozhin

There is not a single attempt to analyze what Lapin brings to the table, that led to his reinstatement.

Presumably with the approval or acceptance of the real war commander- Surovikin…who seems to be doing just fine

Surovikin is in the doghouse for wasting $8 billion in cruise missiles on infrastructure attacks that were supposed to force Ukraine to give Putin what he wants. El floppo.

“but shows Putin is in charge of military decisionmaking, not Kadryov or Prigozhin”

If so, then it also shows Putin as indecisive, first demoting Lapin and then bringing him back and putting him back in command within a couple months. Not the best quality in your wartime leader.

Breaking right now: Putin just demoted Surovikin and put Gerasimov back in charge of the Russian military operation. Pure comedy!

silverleaf on 11th January 2023 "Presumably with the approval or acceptance of the real war commander- Surovikin" to "Moscow has appointed Colonel-General Alexander Lapin as chief of staff of Russia’s ground forces"

Yet earlier on the same day Sergei Surovikin removed as commander of the Russian invasion force

silverleaf “but shows Putin is in charge of military decisionmaking, not Kadryov or Prigozhin”

Not Kadyrov, nor Prigozhin — for now.

Also note that it isn’t a good idea for a politician who has no military experience to be conducting military decisions during a war. That has been a recipe for disaster for centuries - heck even millenia (think of the 2nd Punic war)
