A woman who ran away from home in Alabama to join ISIS said she felt "broken" when the US revoked her citizenship for aiding the terror group.
Hoda Muthana spoke in an interview with The News Movement (TNM), conducted from a prison camp in Syria where she is being held by US-allied forces.
She said she wanted to return to the US, and volunteered to serve time in prison if necessary.
That seems unlikely to happen — the Obama administration stripped Muthana of citizenship in 2016. In 2019, then-President Donald Trump tweeted that he had personally barred Muthana from the US.
And in 2021 a federal appeals court affirmed that she wasn't a US citizen, and rejected her father's attempt to compel the government to let her return.
The US argued that Muthana should never have been treated as a US citizen since her father was a diplomat for Yemen when she was born.
The appeals court supported that decision, describing Hoda as "a prominent spokeswoman for ISIS on social media, advocating the killing of Americans and encouraging American women to join ISIS."
But in her interview, a visibly emotional Muthana said: "I still believe I'm a [US] citizen now."
"I've been through a lot of horrible horrible things in my life. One of the worst feelings I've ever had is someone telling me I wasn't an American citizen. That broke me completely."

Well no, it isn’t an exception is it? “Birthright citizenship” in general is a legal fiction fairy tale. That’s how it’s supposed to work. Citizens of another country (like diplomats) are foreign nationals. An illegal alien isn’t a US citizen either.

IIRC the Federal courts have consistently upheld the concept of “birthright citizenship”. IIRC it’s connected somehow to the 14th Amendment.

The court’s have “interpreted” it that way, but it’s a false interpretation.
They consistently ignore “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof”.... which means that just because you were crapped out on US soil, you are NOT a citizen at birth. But the courts have “interpreted” it to mean that every illegal crapped out is a citizen entitled to YOUR benefits.
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.
Yes, both of her parents were her on a diplomatic passports. She was not “stripped” of her citizenship, legally she was never a US citizen to begin with.
The US Government cannot strip an American Citizen of his or her citizenship. The only way an American Citizen can lose their citizenship is by being convicted of obtaining naturalization fraudulently.
Other than that no American can lose their citizenship, unless they give it up voluntarily.

That’s not entirely true.IIRC there are at least one or two crimes...I think “treason” is one of them...which can result in a “natural born” citizen to be stripped of his/her citizenship.

Illegal aliens can be arrested by US and state law enforcement, that makes them “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States.
Also, the child is innocent, and commits no crime when their parents illegally enter the US prior to their birth. The parents are illegal aliens, the child is not.
The child cannot be penalized for the actions of the parents. That would be a bill of attainder and is unconstitutional.

It is very hard, if not impossible to take someone’s citizenship. As well it should be.
According to the Law of Nations the chilf born overseas to the ambassador to that foreign land is a “Naturel” of the home country.
Gets hazy when you start descending the embassy organizational chart, but one thing that IS certain is that the foreign land is powerless to claim the spawn of the top diplomat as its own.
