I’m a Scientist Who Spoke Up About Climate Change. My Employer Fired Me.
The New York Times ^ | January 10, 2023 | Rose Abramoff

Posted on 01/10/2023 11:26:02 PM PST by KingofZion

Shortly after the New Year, I was fired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory after urging fellow scientists to take action on climate change. At the American Geophysical Union meeting in December, just before speakers took the stage for a plenary session, my fellow climate scientist Peter Kalmus and I unfurled a banner that read “Out of the lab & into the streets.” In the few seconds before the banner was ripped from our hands, we implored our colleagues to use their leverage as scientists to wake the public up to the dying planet.

Soon after this brief action, the A.G.U., an organization with 60,000 members in the earth and space sciences, expelled us from the conference and withdrew the research that we had presented that week from the program. Eventually, it began a professional misconduct inquiry (it’s ongoing).

Then, on Jan. 3, Oak Ridge, the laboratory outside Knoxville where I had worked as an associate scientist for one year, terminated my employment. I am the first earth scientist I know of to be fired for climate activism. I fear I will not be the last.

Oak Ridge said it was forced to fire me because I misused government resources by engaging in a personal activity on a work trip and because I did not adhere to its Code of Business Ethics and Conduct. The code has points on scientific integrity, maintaining the institution’s reputation and using government resources “only as authorized and appropriate and with integrity, responsibility, and care.”

*** I used to be a well-behaved scientist. I stood quietly on melting permafrost in Utqiagvik, Alaska, and measured how much greenhouse gas was released into the atmosphere. I filled spreadsheets and ran simulations about how warming temperatures would increase the carbon emissions from soil.

This woman is an idiot...and no scientist.

Bias/Activism and science don't mix. It taints objectivity. It taints even the appearance of objectivity.

Without objectivity, science cannot be trusted because somewhere down the line, in some small experiment, even in just writing up the results of some experiments, some biased scientist--consciously or unconsciously--fudged the results or the protocols in favor of his bias.

When science is tainted by bias, the results cannot be trusted. And when nuclear science is tainted by bias, things go boom.

I have a feeling that this guy was mentally unstable and everyone knew it so they were looking for a way to terminate him.

Not sure what an “Associate Scientist” is. Would like to see her Job Description is and what her credentials are. Hard to fire a GS employee. Maybe she was a contractor.

“I’m just wondering why they haven’t taken their sideshow on the road to China, where the pollution is happening?”

US CO2 emissions are down 25% over the last 25 years. These climate maggots can F off and take their beloved electric stoves with them. They are climate parasites who live off of taxpayer dollars. Via Federal grants $$$$ and via employment at State and public universities.

Very encouraging. When I first saw the headline, I thought that they were fired for QUESTIONING the CC narrative.

However, I would not be the least bit surprised to see the head of Oak Ridge resign in the coming days. Obviously, the NYT wants their head-on-a-stick.

Knowing government regulations about firings, Rose was warned about using her position like this during work related activities and about what she can and cannot say about her job in public.

I'll bet she was warned not encourage her colleagues to leave during their work hours and go out and protest during work hours. And she had been repeatedly warned.

Sounds like she did not heed the advice and probably designed the banner and organized the event.

My bet is that she will be hired again by an organization that supports climate change activism. The question is whether or not she learned anything from her firing and avoids being disruptive during work hours in the future?

Chances are like most folks like her, is that it may take a number of times, and possibly coming into management having to have someone under her that undermines her policies and or procedures before she will understand it, if ever.

Years ago, the expert on climate at NASA was fired over his stance on the issue. Forget his name. At the start of 0.

US CO2 emissions are down 25% over the last 25 years.

Who cares? Don't play their game. It's a hoax. If CO2 levels were up 25% it still wouldn't matter.

She'll sue...get her job back...with back pay...and juicy little settlement for “emotional distress”. And it's funny that this should be seen in the NY Times...whose top management all live in oceanfront mansions in Greenwich,Darien and various obscenely wealthy towns on Long Island.
