Toyota is better anyhow.
And Honda is good.

Check out mileage figures on Toyotas. Car & Driver magazine did a real world highway test on a 2022 Camry and got 45mpg on a regular non-hybrid 4 cylinder (again, this is highway mileage).

Yes, I am aware of that but the parent company is Japanese of course.
It is the company, their management and their quality control and engineering that count.

And guess where the competition that does not measure up is also made.

The Toyoda family started Toyota. They either didn't like the sound or they thought it sounded unlucky and inauspicious, so they changed the company's name.
If you want something to startle you, how about this?

The competition that doesn’t measure up is made in these USA, by UAW workers.
Toyota cars and trucks are made in these USA by free (as in liberty) workers.
BIG difference.

Most people who purchase new cars do not work on their own vehicles, especially the ones with 100,000 mile warranties. Eloi gonna eloi.

"And frankly, BEVs are not the only way to achieve the world's carbon neutrality goals." Carbon dioxide is plant food, and where our oxygen comes from. "Carbon Neutral" is an Orwellian term that means genocide.

Which would you advise getting, Camry or Lexus? And would you recommend an older model or a newer model?

My suspicion is that the goal is to lock in proactive EV legislation before consumers get wise to the downsides of EVs to limit the total number of cars on the road and to restrict the range and utility of the vehicles to limit automobile usage and citizen mobility.

My last three Tacomas
1) given to my son with 211,000 exceptional miles and promptly totaled.
2) my grandson is driving my ‘04 with 416,000 miles
3) my ‘19 will be included in my will.
I love ‘em even if they don’t haul or tow worth a damn. For dependability, you cannot beat Toyota. Those Kentucky built Camrys are the best car deal going.

I’ve owned two Honda Accords that lasted me for thirty years. Wonderfully reliable cars.
However, if Toyota is the only auto maker on record saying this stuff is b.s., then as I said, Toyota here I come.
Basically everything the government unconstitutionally pushes or mandates, like the vaccine death protocol, I go the other way.

Toyota builds a consistently quality product. Guess where they're made ... What does it matter where they're made as long as it is to design and manufacturing spec?
