Soledar to the north of that Russian break-through, is in danger of complete encirclement.

Odd, I read Bakhmut was strategic and important for Ukraine.

No, you’ve been reading that for nine months now. Nothing changes regardless of what happens in Ukrainian villages. Ukraine is still Ukraine. Russia is still a fake super power and Potemkin nation of toilet stealing bandits.
Since so many Russian senior officers and generals have been killed, Russia has no meaningful strategy other than commit war crimes in the hope of causing Ukraine to surrender.
The Russian war effort on the ground is a series of non coordinated attacks that are ineffective. So, they dug in and the Ukranian boys miles distant fly their drones over the trenches, locate some Russians and call in a grenade dropping armed drone. If you are Russian you can’t take a piss without being seen and perhaps targeted.
If Bakhmut falls, AFU supply lines from the West (across steppe that ends a few km west of Bakhmut) will be cut. This leaves Slavyansk and Kramatorsk as the single point for AFU logistics to AFU forces in the Donbass. If the AFU loses Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, they are out of the Donbass and their 8 years worth of defenses and into a maneuvering war on Steppe all the way to the Dneiper. In a maneuvering war, the AFU is screwed.
There is a valuable salt mine there. The Wagner Nazis are financed by mining in Africa. Russian bandits are doing what they know best: destroy, steal and mass murder.

Ukrainian five minutes ago:

This reported breakthrough is not verified and likely did not happen. Other reports say the UA has retaken their positions and are using heavy air strikes in the area to repel the regular and newly arrived Wagner forces.
