A tense moment on the House of Representatives floor resulted in a Republican member physically lunging at another who then had to be restrained from further escalation.
The scuffle happened between Reps-elect Mike Rogers, R-Ala., and Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., after the 14th House speaker vote failed.
Gaetz was discussing with Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., the possibility of backing him in the next vote and appeared to mouth the worth "committee."
Gaetz is currently on the House Armed Services Committee, which is chaired by Rogers.
McCarthy appeared to agree and returned to his seat. Rogers, having witnessed the interaction, then walked up to Gaetz’s row and made a move toward him.
Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., intervened and physically restrained Rogers, pulling him back by his shoulders in full view of C-SPAN’s cameras.
Rogers could then be seen appearing to yell: "I won’t forget this!"
In the 15th and final vote, McCarthy was officially elected speaker with Gaetz voting "present."

Don’t you DARE tell me what I AM OR AM NOT.
What seems obvious is that I am NOT a FREEPER.
SO, BYE, Y’all.
Well you haven’t been here long and typically newby’s are trolls. So goodbye.
I think you are spot on with that!
Is that a My Pillow hair rug?
For an extra donation to FR, let’s do it! (I am a monthly giver now!)
I think we ought to allow them to carry 3 foot long hickory sticks on the floor of the house. Would be much more entertaining.
Right...Elected representatives actually working for voters instead of lobbyists and big money donors.
Early entry for 2023 political photo of the year.
Looks like a good way to lose a thumb .
If Gaetz took a Chair from Roberts, that’s great news, bc w/ the RINOs it’s all about the money.
If leapfrogging the pay-for-play committee assignments were behind Robert's outburst, I am for him losing the chairmanship even more. That guy's fundraising plan was to make a few phone calls to the people who had their palms greased by Richard Shelby with our tax dollars in that last spending bill.
Arrest his azz.
I'm hearing one of the 'concessions' obtained was a $75B cut to defense spending...no wonder Rogers started squealing.
Watch them. Don’t uncork the champaigne, yet.
You are wise to remind us to not count our chickens on this before they actually hatch. Even the new rule to more easily recall the Speaker is part of that package that has to be voted on.
But McCarthy needs that package to pass, to prove he brokered in good faith, and can in fact lead the caucus. If it fails, all trust in him, by everyone, even on both sides, will be lost, and he will be unable to serve as Speaker for any length of time.
Just look back at the history of Speakers. Often, especially in the case of Pelosi, we didn’t like what she said, but she did at least always end up doing what she promised, whether it was a horrible evil idea to begin with, or not. Speakers have to keep their word, and follow through with it, else they don’t have enough legitimacy to lead.
The RINO’s in Congress, who would love to shoot this new rules package down, know this. They know by blocking it, McCarthy’s speakership would be mortally wounded, and he would never recover.
McCarthy knows this too, so he will whip them into shape, He can’t afford for his first big deal, perhaps the biggest deal he will ever make within his own side of the House, to turn out to be a lie. it would permanently destroy his credibility not only with Republicans, but with everyone, worldwide.
So I believe it will pass. Barely, but it will. Otherwise McCarthy will have fallen on his sword in the most dramatic way possible.
Just an observation.
I dunno. I could have made a packet with the cane concession outside the House doors.
Couldn’t agree more!
Perhaps you should move to Alabama and lead the charge?
My hero lol
we’ve noticed your sentiments here on this 2023 clash I can’t say I’m surprised
The king of public political manhandling has to be my main man Saddam Hussein
