Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) appears to have clinched the Speakership.
The apparent win came on the 15th ballot, after a long day and moments of drama and chaos on the House floor.
Five Republican holdouts so far have voted “present” on the final ballot, lowering the vote threshold by enough to hand McCarthy the gavel.

McCarthy won nothing really, the Illusion of Power, his masters will giving him his marching pressers and whatever deals he promised will be forgotten and we will have gotten another RINO as Speaker and nothing will change.

Enough Members didn’t want to stay and vote, so McCarthy won by ‘attrition’.

There should be a musical play written about this 15 rounds of voting and the artful lying, the melodrama, the disembodied giddiness of ‘victory achieved’ surrounding it all. Maybe an opera, full of laments and soliloquies.
