Does every (truck) diesel engine after 2010 require DEF?

Yes.

How long do you think it will be before Oregon and Washington follow California on this path? It seems like they often do on other issues.

“you can upgrade the pollution controls on older vehicles with readily available kits”

You’d think the regulation would require limits on exhaust emissions rather than just outlawing trucks of a certain age.

Seems like there’s a basis for a lawsuit.

More proof that the only way to go is to grow or raise as much of your food as you can (veggies, chickens, hogs, fruit trees, berry bushes, foraging, beef) or source it locally via family farms, CSAs or farmers markets.

Shop local and use the second-hand markets for clothing and household needs.

Also, consider moving to a part of America where you can still do that, if need be!

California bans 70,000 tractor-trailers amid supply chain crisis

Technically, I think they're only banning the tractors...

Prepper ping - California eliminates 70,000 older diesel tractor trailors from commerce, due to controlling 'Climate Change'
This is a government made economic and financial crisis in the making which will hamper shipping, off loading, and supply-chain distribution

" Do you remember way back in November when we were teetering on the edge of running out of diesel fuel?
Thankfully, reduced demand and some temporary increases from our remaining refineries pushed off that crisis for a while."

"But it was an important reminder that the nation’s supply chain still runs almost entirely on diesel and if we run out,
no products will be moving anywhere for a while."

"Out in California this month they’re looking at a different but related crisis.
Instead of a shortage of fuel, the state will be looking at a shortage of trucks.
All tractor-trailers and buses made before 2010 are now banned from the state’s highways.
That adds up to an estimated 200,000 vehicles, including more than 70,000 tractor-trailers."

Dogbert41 :" It’s not just tractor trailers, it’s DIESEL TRUCKS.
The kind used on farms ALL ACROSS AMERICA hauling horses, cattle, workers, etc. on every ranch and farm."
So what they all just up and buy brand new trucks at $80 grand + a pop?

Sure enough ! In California, every trucker has a spare $80,000 for a new vehicle that they can just 'pony-up'
Diesel is commonly used for the BTU's which means power, and diesel engines are known for longevity and torque which are needed to haul dead-weight cargo
For the State government to eliminate diesel powered vehicles older than 12 years old means to me that sophomoric idiots are in charge, have no longer any idea of consequence,
and that the government of California does'nt represent the wishes of California citizens.

Fine with me. As grotesque as it may seem, a bunch of people in that state who would keep Governor Hair Gel in power deserve to suffer.

(And what was Kim Guilfoyle thinking when she married that guy, anyway? Oh, wait, she wasn’t thinking.)

Pecksniffian kakistocracy: Rule by inferiors who consider virtue-signaling to be their highest priority.

Okee. So, the important question is, will the CHP and other local constabulary enforce this "ban"?

If the cops can hand out tickets and impound the vehicles (bonus for towing and storage company graft) I think there’s a pretty good economic incentive to do so.

License plate readers can be programmed to flag the vehicles so it doesn’t take any special effort to identify them.

Great idea.

Now Varl’s Jr will have to go to the closest Safeway every morning. What great exercise.

The gas stations will be fun to. Get to know the car nextdoor.
