GOP Sen. John Kennedy passes on Louisiana governor bid

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) announced on Wednesday that he would be passing on a gubernatorial bid in Louisiana after he said late last year that he was giving the matter “serious consideration.”

“I have looked into my heart and decided to remain in the Senate and not to run for governor,” the senator said in an email, according to the Lafayette Daily Advertiser. “At this juncture, I just think I can help my state and my country more in the Senate.”

Kennedy was considering a run for governor in the state’s off-year election. Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) is term-limited, and many Republicans had already been eyeing a run in the red state. After winning a second term in the Senate in November, Kennedy released a statement acknowledging he was considering a run for the governor’s mansion.

“Over the last year, Louisianans have asked me time and time again to come home to serve as governor during these difficult times. Becky and I love the people of Louisiana. We’ve always listened to them, so I am giving serious consideration to entering the governor’s race. I’ll be announcing my decision soon,” Kennedy said.

Tough call on his part. I think he would make a fine governor. But could he win?

That and he said no in enough time for someone to actually setup a bid. It takes a lot of time to set up a bid.

Surprised that scumbag neocon Cassidy is not running for governor since we know he is not going to win his next Senate primary race. That guy is toast.

My feelings exactly. A U.S. Senate seat is a great gig. You only have to face the voters once every six years, better bennies and no term limits.

Considering the two brain dead cretins we have representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, there is also little or no accountability and you don't actually have to do anything.

Kennedy is an infinitely better asset to the GOP in the Senate than he would be as LA Governor.

The two top candidates in Louisiana are ex-Congressman Jeff Landry and current Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser. If the GOP unites behind one of the two, it should be a fairly easy win. Democrat J.B. Edwards got lucky twice, facing supposedly “flawed” Republicans in 2015 and 2019.

Kennedy was never seriously considered as a candidate anyway as far as I know.

I like to year him talk but from what I’ve seen, that’s all he does. Being a Governor is an intense job.

I love this guy. His questioning is a hoot to watch. I love how his "Mr. Chaney" (Green Acres) routine masks the brilliance of his questions.

We Need him in senate to keep us all sane

My Democratic friends just can’t accept the fact that the American people chose Donald Trump to be president – it’s called democracy. My advice to them, and I say this gently: Fill out a ‘Hurt Feelings Report’ and let’s move on.

A governor has to actually work. All a Senator has to do is vote the party line. That gives them the rest of the day to drink and hobnob with donors.

Well it doesn't take any ability, or even a fully functioning brain. Just raise 10 million and promise to vote the party line.

Landry is the Attorney General now. He should be nominated unopposed for Governor. SHOULD be.
