Laura Ingraham Abruptly Ends Interview After Being Called Out by Guest
Newsweek ^ | January 5, 2023 | Gerrard Kaonga

Posted on 01/05/2023 6:31:56 AM PST by Fiji Hill

Fox News' Laura Ingraham quickly ended an interview on her show with activist and author Steve Almond after he raised a sensitive issue for the presenter.

Almond, who wrote the book Against Football: One Fan's Reluctant Manifesto, said that the NFL must feel economic pressure from its fans before it will take the steps needed to improve safety for players.

Speaking to Ingraham on her Wednesday show, the pair got into a spat that resulted in the Fox News host abruptly terminating the interview.

Ingraham did this after Almond compared the pressure he felt needed to be placed on the NFL to that felt by Fox News after Ingraham was criticized for a tweet mocking a survivor of the 2018 Parkland Stoneman Douglas High school shooting.

Almond said: "I am focused on the fans, and what I essentially believe, not any government ban is going to make football safer, certainly not some mythic woke mob that you mentioned to try and scare your viewers."

Graham interrupted to say: "I'm not trying to scare my viewers, football is not about politics."

Almond replied: "I think that is your entire economic model. Your entire economic model is to scare your viewers, that is your whole gig."

Ingraham then began to speak over her guest and insisted that he wanted football to be banned.

She argued that there were probably many ways to make many sports safer, including baseball and lacrosse. "Underneath it all you seem to have the belief that football has a history based in racism, and a celebration of the fans, of violence," she said.

"What I am saying to you is, I don't know what kind of fan base you are going to, but they don't celebrate violence, they are there to enjoy the game."

Almond answered: "I agree with you Laura, I don't think the fans are there to celebrate violence.

"I think they tolerate the violence and they see when someone like Damar Hamlin is almost killed in front of them and I remember watching Darryl Stingley get paralyzed, as an 11-year-old.

"I didn't stop watching football and lots of fans don't stop watching football because they enjoy it so much because it is so thrilling.

"The reason people change their behavior is because there is an economic incentive. Couple of years ago when you taunted the survivor of the Parkland mass shooting, you apologized only because advertisers withdrew from your show."

Almond was then cut off and Ingraham continued: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, nice try little buddy. I appreciate it. This is what they always do." ,p> Following a backlash after her tweet on the Parkland mass shooting survivor, Ingraham apologized on her Twitter page, although some advertisers continued to abandon her show.

Newsweek has contacted Fox News for comment.

“Almond replied: “I think that is your entire economic model. Your entire economic model is to scare your viewers, that is your whole gig.” “

That is the economic model of the evening opinion shows on all the news networks. They appeal to emotions and try to convince you that today’s outrage is the worst thing ever.

Who was the survivor? "

This dweeb... and he was only a 'victim' in that he may have gotten really really tired after riding his bicycle to the school after the shootings were over.

He was right about one thing. US media is all about fear mongering. Have a look at the COVID coverage in the last three years as an example. Look at all the stuff they ran with in an attempt to frighten the population into submission. It continues to this very day. The fear mongering is undeniable throughout the media, including Fox News. Not one single media outlet took the opposing view or even spoke of it until recently.

He's not wrong there. ALL "news" is fear-based.

Notice how often the words "fears" "frightening" "shocking" "concern" "worry" "doubt" are used in broadcasts and headlines.

Almond served as adjunct professor in creative writing at Boston College for five years until publishing an open letter of resignation in The Boston Globe on May 12, 2006, in which he explained that his resignation was intended to protest the selection of Condoleezza Rice as the college's 2006 commencement guest speaker. He later appeared on the Hannity & Colmes show on Fox News to discuss his decision.

I was no fan of Bush, but this should have been a red flag.

Also, anybody who is or was a short story writer published by little presses probably isn't a good fit for Fox News.

But wait, there's more. Do a websearch for "Steve Almond Trump" and see what the guy has said and written. Things like "Donald Trump's Nihilism, And Our Imperiled National Soul" and "Mining Trump's 'Heart of Darkness'." No way would any halfway competent staffer have picked him for Ingraham's show.

That’s the one thing I love about Levin on his Fox show...he sits back and let’s his guests talk uninterrupted.

She was right to throw him out. He obviously has a hate on for Laura Ingraham. He took the opportunity of being on her show to make a cheap off-topic insult that had NOTHING to do with football injuries.

They have to talk about this case or it will look like fox is covering up. May as well have a fight on the air about something that has nothing at all do do with what happened here.

“Only show I watch on Fox is Tucker. The rest is dead to me.”

Kudlow, I’ve been listening to him for years. Before 45, before Fox. Him and Clarke Howard. Motley fool is no nonsense as well.

Another general rule is anything out of the Chicago School of Economics is worth a listen.

I read the posted text from Newsweek. Laura was staying on topic, and he was not.

I stopped my subscription to Newsweek years ago. They had a dishonest, slandering, left-wing mindset than permeated all their articles. I see no indication that they have changed.

A game with mostly passing and near flag football contact rules iss not appealing to me whatsoever.

I feel the same way. I'm a USC Trojans fan, and although I admire the passing artistry of quarterback Caleb Williams, I miss the days when we played power football and when the Trojans, with their Power I offensive formation, squared off against Ohio State with its Full House backfield or Texas A&M with its Wishbone.

Didn’t watch this interview, but have watched Ingraham and can not tolerate her. She lost me with her last Trump interview, she broadsided him numerous times. The other night in discussing the McCarthy conundrum, she consistently referred to what “she would do”. Fortunately, she has never been elected for office and if she were we would see a typical RINO.

I saw the exchange last night as well. Laura also mentioned her active involvement in sports and that she new quite a bit about sports safety.

That was conveniently left out of the article.

The guy definitely had an agenda.

Fox News has always been sensationalist tabloid garbage.

It's the Rupert Murdoch business model.

Is there any other field of work where knuckleheads like Sean Hannity, Geraldo Rivera, and Shep Smith are even employable?
