Much Ado About Nothing
The pierce county stuff is most likely meth heads looking to steal copper.
The previous incident could have been anything, but there is certainly no evidence of any connection to pierce county.
The news coverage seems like it is designed to encourage copycats

Fox’s website story has pics of the 2 perps, their pickup and the 2 short barrel rifles. Camera at one of the substations caught them.

They broke into a business and stole cash from the register after the lights (and the alarm system) went out.
Kind of pathetic.
No business owner is going to leave more than $100 of coins and small bills over night in the cash drawer.
Probably did not even lock the cash drawer, so thieves would not smash it to pieces.
$3 million in damage - for pocket change?
They must be white supremacists, or something?

A lot of this is on the web, manuals etc... but I do agree with you.
On another note, I’m thinking freeze dried and canned (store bought metal) and a small generator, propane would be nice.

Investigators identified Greenwood and Crahan almost immediately after the attacks took place by using cell phone data that allegedly showed both men in the vicinity of all four substations, clearly not professionals.

Surveillance images cited in the court documents also showed images of one of the men and of the getaway car.Geniuses they're not.

No one knew who the men were but their phones, and yours, can be tracked whenever a cop wants it to be.
Youβre always being watched when that phone is on.

“Investigators identified Greenwood and Crahan by using cell phone data...”
They would obviously be idiots if they brought cell phones with them (but if they did, one wonders just what kind of warrant was used to rummage through all of the data on everyone in those areas). I’m thinking that they weren’t that dumb.
My guess is that their vehicle(s) gave them away, either via license plate cameras and/or direct pings from the car to a receiver (if late model). Obviously the feds don’t want people know about this technology, so cell phone data works good here, since they’ve already disclosed it, numerous times.

Dummies shudda left their cell phones at home or had a Faraday bag to put them in. Did you know your phone can be tracked even when it’s off? Which means it isn’t really off.

Investigators identified Greenwood and Crahan almost immediately after the attacks took place by using cell phone data that allegedly showed both men in the vicinity of all four substationsThis was buried in the narrative. If the authorities already suspected the two did they have to get a search warrant to review phone tracking?
If they weren't suspects yet, of all of the millions of cell phones, how did the authorities just happen to track these two down?
Maybe someone familiar with this can answer the questions.

And yet the FBI somehow won't use that same technology to track and/or id the January 5 Pipe Bomber in Washington D.C. despite the fact that surveillance cameras showed that pipe bomber using a cell phone.
