Two charged with attacks on four power substations in Washington state

Two men were arrested on New Year’s Eve for allegedly shutting down four Washington state power substations in late December that led to power outages for thousands across Pierce County.

Matthew Greenwood and Jeremy Crahan have been charged with conspiracy to damage energy facilities and Greenwood faces a separate charge of possessing illegal short-barreled rifles.

According to court documents, Greenwood, 32, and Crahan, 40, plotted to knock out power from four substations. While power was out in the first two facilities, the pair broke into a local business to steal from the cash register, Greenwood allegedly told investigators after his arrest.

Greenwood got into the substations by cutting through fences and locks, prosecutors say, and tampered electrical breakers and with something called the “bank high-side switch.” For all but one attack, Crahan allegedly stayed outside and acted as a getaway driver.

The two cut off power to thousands of locals and caused at least $3 million worth of damage, according to charging documents.

Investigators identified Greenwood and Crahan almost immediately after the attacks took place by using cell phone data that allegedly showed both men in the vicinity of all four substations, according to court documents. Surveillance images cited in the court documents also showed images of one of the men and of the getaway car.

When Greenwood was arrested in a trailer Saturday, law enforcement also found two short-barrel rifles, which they say Greenwood did not legally own.

The two face up to 20 years behind bars if convicted of conspiring to attack energy facilities. No defense lawyers were listed on the public docket as of Tuesday.

Well, they were too stupid to know they were carrying around government tracking/surveillance devices while they were committing their crimes.

No one knew who the men were but their phones, and yours, can be tracked whenever a cop wants it to be.

You’re always being watched when that phone is on.

“Investigators identified Greenwood and Crahan by using cell phone data...”

They would obviously be idiots if they brought cell phones with them (but if they did, one wonders just what kind of warrant was used to rummage through all of the data on everyone in those areas). I’m thinking that they weren’t that dumb.

My guess is that their vehicle(s) gave them away, either via license plate cameras and/or direct pings from the car to a receiver (if late model). Obviously the feds don’t want people know about this technology, so cell phone data works good here, since they’ve already disclosed it, numerous times.

Useful idiots set up to take the fall by the DS.

They were expendable. All they needed to do was the dirty work and when they got caught, they would take the fall and those who paid them a re protected.

Dummies shudda left their cell phones at home or had a Faraday bag to put them in. Did you know your phone can be tracked even when it’s off? Which means it isn’t really off.

These two don’t have any politics they are too stupid…

That tends to make them Democrats.

Most of the time, anyway.

They were paid.

Yep. And probably told they’d be bailed out if caught, but we’ll see.

That is how merchants pay police officers for actually checking their businesses. The cops have a pass key on their key chain.Very common in big cities.

I doubt any search warrant was used until after the carriers identified the numbers that were associated by time and place to the four substations by simple request.

Then the cops got warrants for full data on those specific numbers.

The carriers own all that data and have a vested interest in functioning power infrastructure.

These two don’t have any politics they are to stupid, they could be thunderbolt and lightfoot, of course thunderbolt was fairly smart

Probably just high on meth and wanted to see sh*t blow up.

This being said, there’s a considerable segment of Antifa who are nothing more than dirty criminal meth heads. They don’t care much about politics. The just like to get high and break stuff.

Save the taxpayers money. Hang the bastards. CNN and MSNBC could juice up their ratings if they aired the executions on live tv. Turn a profit and make it Pay Per View and sell T-shirts and travel mugs with gallows imprinted.
