* House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy failed in a third vote to secure enough votes to be elected Speaker, throwing the party into into uncertainty.
* After the first ballot resulted in votes for several Republicans, the latest round saw McCarthy’s opponents coalesce around a new contender: Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, a longtime McCarthy ally.
* It is the first time in 100 years that the majority party has failed to coalesce around a candidate for Speaker, and it was uncertain what McCarthy’s next steps would be.

Ok then.
Do McCarthy supporters in congress agree?
That’s the question.
True. BUT, House rules require a majority of all members present, not the member who has the most votes. If, for example, five or six Pub members are not present it becomes easier for a party (Dems) to win with less than 218 votes. Dems have instructed their members to be present for all votes so at some point the need to get 218 votes may become a lesser number.
It doesn’t seem so yet. But perhaps overnight. Some of them will vote for Jim. I’m just sad that he’s gonna be forced to do something He doesn’t want. It’s a horrible position for Jim to be in. He finally gets the job he wants but he has to settle for a job he does not want at all. Horrible two years for Jim.
Not true, Jeffries can win if too many GOP members miss Speaker votes. If they are not present, the threshold of 218 votes is lowered.
No crisis
Find an alternative
Guy is weak
My liberal friends love him
I told them “ Of course you do”
Yeah, and like every night it'll end up all over McCarthy's face.
LOL
Which is basically the same thing as voting for him by half.
I’m sure, but I like to see they are not all roll overs...
An honorable man/leader would have stepped down after losing the first vote. A fairly decent man surely would step down after the 2nd vote. Now he lost 3 votes, which proves the 20 that voted against him are correct. McCarthy is not a leader that serves the people but only himself.
#StepDownMcCarthy
Don't be too sure of that; if Pub reps miss votes, the amount needed for speaker (218) drops. Same with Dems; if they miss votes the number McCarthy needs is less.
“My Mamma told me, you better shop around.”
Jim Nordan would be good as Speaker. If the GOPe votes for a Democrat as Speaker that would be good as well because the backlash would create a new political party and that would be good as well.
Jim Jordan or bury the GOP.
It’s not a crisis. These votes are no more historic than any other election for Speaker. All this hundred year history and crisis talk is just bunk. Call me jaded if you want. The current Republican caucus is infested with RINOs and their majority leader is a RINO. I have about zero in common with them. I have zero expectations for the Republican majority over the next two years. That’s backed up by a lifetime of disappointments from the GOP.
What we need is a True Conservative not tainted by the Deep State and I have no idea who that will be or even could be. I don’t care for any of them. I would love to see this fiasco go on for the rest of the week.
I can only imagine the behind the scenes bribes and blackmail taking place and by the time it is over the Speaker job will not be worth a warm bucket of spit as John Nance Garner would say. Lord where is Garner when you need him??????
Defeat out of the jaws of victory once again could be the fate of the Pubs.
Sadly true. Probably even earlier than that. Maybe a lot earlier.
Jordan is tarnished goods and should not be Speaker.
I just saw Brett Baier interview Lauren Boebert, he was red faced, furious and almost lost control. He was all in for McCarthy and defending MTG if you can believe that. Now he is bringing on Mike Waltz to discuss what he just heard from Boebert.
