His father — who is not said to be a suspect — had flown to Idaho to make the 2,500 mile drive with his son after Kohberger completed his first semester of the PhD program at the university, the suspect’s lawyer said.

This is part of my movie plot I did not anticipate.
So how involved is the Dad? Just getting the kid? Kid usually needs help to drive home? Did kid wear gloves at stops along the way? What did Dad think about that? What did kid tell Dad; I’m pretty sure the killing topic would come up. If it didn’t Dad should figure it out. Or Dad knew and came to ‘help’ the kid. Did kid set up Dad with a false story? Did the cops talk to the Dad about the trip?
This car trip will be 3 episodes in my ‘season’. And this will produce additional seasons, too: court and trial, prison and girlfriend letters waiting for appeal, Woo Hoo.
Christmas break probably isn’t that long. He may have flown out there to get some quality time with his son; also if they switched drivers every 2 hours or so, they’d get home faster.
On the other hand, why not just fly him home? A round trip isn’t usually much more than one-way.
Why does everyone assume this guy did it? I think he’s innocent.
That's a good question.
