It has been claimed that every President from Carter through Obama voluntarily released their tax returns for the years they were in office. The tradition started with Nixon. But that was voluntary. Involuntary disclosure is another matter.

No...they voluntarily released multiple years of returns prior to their taking office. There is a listing someplace of what they submitted.

While in office, they're subject by law to be released.
