Police said they began tracking and surveilling Kohberger around Christmas and stayed on him for four days when they spotted the white Hyundai Elantra they believed was connected to the murders.
Investigators said Kohberger drove cross-country in the car to his parents home in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania.
His car was confirmed to be at the Pennsylvania home, and officials worked quickly to obtain a warrant for his arrest, law enforcement sources told CNN.
Along with the surprised bar owner, students who attended Washington State University with Kohberger said they were shocked to learn that the quiet man in their classroom was the prime suspect in the brutal slaying.
Friday's arrest is the first major break in the case - with Kohberger asking if 'anyone else was arrested' when he was taken into custody. An extradition hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
Kohberger is a registered Libertarian, although does not appear to have had any active social media profiles at the time of his arrest.
During a press conference on Friday authorities confirmed that a white Hyundai Elantra was discovered in the search – with sources saying it was towed from outside Kohberger's home.
Law enforcement sources told CNN that his DNA was discovered at the scene of the crime – with officers managing to track down who owned the car seen in the area of the slayings.
However, Kohberger has no prior arrests, according to public records, so it is unclear how officials got hold of his DNA.

They have caught a lot of people through GEDMatch. You can upload raw genetic data from any of the testing services and find matches across the different platforms. Also, they do not need your DNA. If they get a hit on a second or third cousin, maybe someone you have never met, they will narrow it down in pretty short order. Last I heard, 2/3 of white people in the US can be identified in this way.
Yup. Warning signs. Not that big of a deal to claim you are a Libertarian. But to “register” as a Libertarian?………now that is preposterous. Spending time weighing political affiliations of vicious murders is very helpful……especially in this day and age.
... not that complicated though: fbi and other abc’s keep track of their best assets.
They track everyone who visits their epstein hell holes... for easy access and on cue triggering whenever they need an event to support their scheduled narratives.
For example-—
“White conservatives, independents and libertarians are all potential religious terrorists.”
Lol...wut?
We’re talking about DNA analysis here, not simple blood work.
At least he didn't say "I can't breathe" - but then, he's got the wrong melanin level to make that claim.
“Check back with your LEO buddies and ask them specifically about the DeAngelo case where DNA evidence from a cold case was used to produce a close DNA match with one of Joe DeAngelo’s relatives before they even knew who the suspect was.”
You omitted from my post the most important part: “More likely, Kohberger or a close family member voluntarily uploaded DNA sequences to a public site where the DNA is available to anyone who asks.” And that is exactly how LEO identified and caught Joseph DeAngelo. LEO did not obtain the DNA match through 23 and Me, Ancestry.com or similar DNA testing companies, because the DNA testing companies will not turn the DNA sequencing data over to LEO without a warrant and to get a warrant there must be a specific target of the investigation.
In the DeAngelo case, one or more of DeAngelo’s relatives obtained their DNA sequencing from a DNA testing company and then voluntarily uploaded their DNA information to “GEDmatch,” which is not a DNA testing company, but a public database that allows anyone to post their DNA sequencing in the hopes of finding relatives who have also uploaded their DNA to GEDmatch. As Wikipedia explains, “GEDmatch users may upload their autosomal DNA test data from commercial DNA companies to identify potential relatives who had also uploaded their DNA data.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GEDmatch) In addition, the process of matching crime scene DNA with DNA uploaded to GEDmatch and then tracing the match to a person can take many weeks or months — assuming there’s DNA in the database to match.
In the Kohberger case, LEO probably uploaded crime scene DNA to GEDmatch, and maybe there was a match and they were working their way through the DNA to identify a suspect. More likely, once LEO traced the white Hyundai Elantra to a grad student at WSU, they we able to obtain a DNA sample from Kohberger’s on-campus office or dumpster garbage from his apartment and match the DNA to crime scene DNA is a matter of days (as opposed to weeks or months).
Good question. BTW, I’m guessing the killer’s DNA from skin tissue was taken from the underside of a victim’s fingernails.
So you’re saying that DNA is not available from your blood ?
I see what you did there! 😏
Good flick.
😁
This makes NO sense!
If someone was LISTENING could they HEAR a crash.
Could they not HEAR someone screaming at the button, "Is anyone listening to me??"
backwater and hot in the same post
Golly!
I'm a libertarian, too!
Never figured you for a Maaaaryan.
If the cops were listening and the driver pushed the onstar button it would not connect to an onstar operator.
Enjoy your time so far, OnStar!
When then news gets the already installed electronics COULD have called for help; and didn’t; because you wanted a piece of action; the nation will VOTE you out of business, and let our Protectors guard us on the road.
