Lawmaker says Hollande’s words confirm West’s deception of Russia

The West has been systematically deceiving Russia since the end of the Cold War in order to weaken it geopolitically, Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, said, comme nting on former French President Francois Hollande's statement about the Minsk agreements being an attempt to buy Kiev some time.

"Former French President Francois Hollande confirmed former German Chancellor Angela Merkel's words that the Minsk agreements were needed to give Kiev a break and prepare the Ukrainian army... He obviously forgot to add something about the next packages of sanctions, imposed on Russia for ‘failing’ to implement the Minsk agreements, which for the other signatories from the beginning were nothing a bluff," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

"Russia has been systematically deceived since the end of the Cold War. The NATO advance eastward, the series of revolutions in the post-Soviet republics, the creation of an anti-Russian bridgehead out of Ukraine, all os this was done with one goal: to geopolitically weaken our country. The exchange rate of the American and European promises has not just dropped to zero, it has bottomed out," Slutsky added.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's words that the Minsk agreements were needed to give Kiev a break and prepare the Ukrainian army.

And then Trump came along, and unexpectedly tripped-up Hillary and the deep-state's war plans for 4 years. It why they hated him so much, and had to use "Russia, Russia, Russia" narrative on all their spying, and Ukraine and Vindmans on his impeachment. Gotta keep the narrative alive at all costs.

I doubt that. They have been biding their time and when western hubris outgrew its sturdy base of western incompetence built on western corruption they struck.

I said years ago this would happen. And that they’d go all the way to World War III to “prove” Hillary - even though we know have proof she was lying.

Finally at some point Russia got pissed off enough and decided enough is enough and done something about it and the west got bent out of shape, telling Russia you just can’t do that and the poor people in the middle, as usual the common folks who don’t want any part of it are the ones who suffer.

I am inclined to agree with you, Russia suspected deception, however it is attractive to play the completely unaware victim.

I suspect President Trump could have hammered out a peaceful compromise where all sides gave some, and nearly no one would have gotten killed.

If he hadn't been Illegally removed from Office.

long before Minsk, Russia was invading Armenia, Chechnya, Moldova, Ukraine

Russia broke many promises to respect others’ borders, long before Minsk ... this is merely more Russian apologizing & propaganda

Russia is always the victim! wah!!

Chechnya was Russia. At least get a decent history lesson.

The next Russia president will be a chechen. He is and always has been a Russian citizen.

Please post links proving Russia invaded Moldova and Armenia.

If President Trump had negotiated a surrender of Eastern Ukraine to Russia he would have been pilloried as a Chamberlain-style appeaser of a dictator.

There are some mistakes no one should repeat. Appeasing a dictator is one of them.
