Russia's war against Ukraine should "culminate" by the summer of 2023
Retired Major John Spencer told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Georgian service that he doesn't share the opinion that the war will last for years, due to Ukraine's strength on the battlefield and support from Western allies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's initial strategy of overtaking Kyiv in April was a failure, Spencer said, followed by another unsuccessful attempt to alienate Ukrainian allies. Russia's continued attacks on critical Ukrainian infrastructure to literally "freeze" Ukraine and its people are "futile," he said.
"I think it's clear that Putin is not going to let his own intentions go. He doesn't care how many Russian soldiers will die," Spencer said. "But the Russian Army is in trouble, very big trouble. Putin wants to slow down the war. He needs time to give at least a little military training to the thousands of people who were forced into military service.
"At this point, I don't see any direction in which the Russian Army can advance. Their only goal is to keep what they've captured and I think they won't succeed, either."
Hilary Appel, government professor at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California, told Newsweek that Russia has other options for military support, such as Iran and North Korea. Iran's drones are having a significant impact on the war, she said, on the battlefield and on the calculations of other countries such as Israel, which has shown restraint because of its own strategic considerations.
"The first few days in February 2022 failed to achieve the downfall of the Zelensky regime, as hoped for by the Russian government,"
"But the Russian military's poor logistics and an ineffective command structure, combined with the well-trained and highly motivated Ukrainian troops, succeeded in stopping the advance and de-occupying captured territory."

I no longer believe a word from anyone regarding Ukraine.
Not one word.
L
Hitler had similar thoughts about Russia....
You mean, like Ukraine is kicking Russia's butt?
Must be in a lot of trouble since Russia ran out of food , ammo and missiles about 6 months ago
OK, so now retired majors are speaking authoritatively about Ukraine? He’s probably prior enlisted, but still, this is the theater of the absurd now. I was a former AF Captain and I don’t know $hit about air or combat operations. Neither does a retired major who was most pronably a staff officer which means his real world comabt knowledge topped out at the company level.
Lol. I’d trust an E-3’s take much more than some run-of-the mill 0-4 who thinks he knows something.
Quick review of this guy
Interesting military career. Runs a think/tank/institute and teaches at West Point. Colonel in the California National Guard, sells consulting services to US Army.
Would he say anything at all opposed to US Government narrative?
“Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty”
LOL. Why does Ukraine conscript 14 year olds and disabled at this point?
+1
They found a major to spew the party line, so like the minister that supports gay marriage, he gets blabbed all over the place.

Let me guess, they’re out of missiles...yet again.
Putin has 13 fatal diseases and Russia is out of missiles for the 23rd time.
“OK, so now retired majors are speaking authoritatively about Ukraine? He’s probably prior enlisted, but still, this is the theater of the absurd now.”
I suspect he’s given his talking points and if he does a good job, he gets some green-backs. Given what we now know about Twitter, I would actually be SHOCKED if these people were doing any research of their own.
The only people that I do trust are the ones NOT spouting Western Propaganda, as I know they are certainly not getting paid by our ‘friends’ in DC, and very likely not by Russia, given what we now know about Russian ‘collusion’. In other words, they’re on their own.
I personally don’t care about either one of these countries, at some point, this war will be over, it will be interesting whichever side is still standing, will those who were loudly proclaiming the opposite still be allowed in public to voice their opinions.
“Would he say anything at all opposed to US Government narrative?”
Not if he doesn’t want child porn to show up on his computer.
