Uzbekistan to save $250M by streamlining government...The number of government employees will be cut by 30 percent.

Uzbekistan’s government is to be radically streamlined under changes taking effect on New Year’s Day.

A decree adopted by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will see the number of ministries and other units of government trimmed by half, from 61 at present to 28. Staff numbers will be reduced by 30 percent and many government buildings and assets sold off, leading to an estimated recouping of 2.8 trillion sum ($250 million), officials have said.

This move to reduce the size of the government comes on the heels of a state of the nation speech delivered by Mirziyoyev in which the president offered further populist pledges, including making gas more readily available to households, improving public transport and guaranteeing greater protections for property rights.

It also marks a sharp reversal of approach from that adopted by Mirziyoyev during his first term, which started in 2016. Fully 12 of the government agencies now being liquidated had been formed within the last six years. Mirziyoyev argued that those ministries and departments were needed to “revive” neglected areas of industry that were in danger of “disappearing.”

“We had to do this, otherwise we would not have reached our current achievements,” Mirziyoyev said at the state of the union speech.

The reduction in the number of ministries has mainly been done by merging smaller ministries. This means that the ministries of economy and finance, and the ministries of preschool education and public education will become single entities. Dozens of government agencies will lose their current independent status and will become answerable to ministries.

Deputy Finance Minister Odilbek Isakov has said more than 300 buildings and 55 vehicles currently used by government entities will go on sale. More savings will be achieved by having government officials interact with the public via online tools instead of traveling to the provinces.

When our government cuts budgets, they always target essential services so we will feel it. If you think about it, it makes sense. If they cut waste and freeloaders at the top, who would notice? Or care?

“Lily Adams” is the AT%T character played by Milana Aleksandrovna Vayntrub, who was born in Uzbekistan back when it was an SSR.

The source of the article is interesting, indeed.

We learn "Eurasianet is a tax-exempt [501(c)3] organization based at Columbia University's Harriman Institute, one of the leading centers in North America of scholarship on Eurasia. We are funded by Google, the Open Society Foundations, the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the National Endowment for Democracy, Columbia University's Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies and other grant-making institutions, and are advised by a board of trustees."

The notion that government can -- and eventually must -- be downsized is dawning on many, irrespective of political brand. When a funding game can no longer continue, it will not continue. Period.

In parallel this day, we learn that government retirement programs in Newsom's California, Murphy's New Jersey and Pritzker's Illinois are under enormous pressures because of poor investments to "grow" -- read teeter -- as the numbers of government fat cat retirees crowd out the middle class in their demands for "rent" in the classic sense.

The professional political class throughout the world, and especially in the US, has been rapacious. Time to downsize? Past time.....

When a certain percentage of the population works for the government, there aren’t enough non-government workers to pay the taxes to sustain the salaries of the ones who do.

GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES DO NOT PAY TAXES.

They just think they do..................
