The daily "news" filled with modal verbs -- may, might, could -- seems like the same stratagem as already used before.

Given 1) the mortality rate for Covid over three full years is a small 0.085 percent worldwide, and 2) the Chinese (and others) benefited wildly from previous lockdowns by selling massive amounts of PPE, the "might" headlines seem in service to these three years of fear mongering.

China figured prominently in those who profited from the last go around.

Since China had such a strict "Zero COVID" policy, I wonder if the strain burning through the population there now is the original more deadly strain, or is the much milder but highly contagious strain hitting the rest of the world.
