Former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin testified before the House select committee investigating the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, that he had discussed invoking the 25th Amendment with then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, contradicting the nation's former top diplomat.
"Do you recall talking to Secretary Pompeo in General Milley's presence about the 25th Amendment?" the committee asked him, per the Washington Examiner. The line of inquiry became public when the committee released the transcripts of 34 of its interviews earlier this month.
"I mean, I do recall speaking to Secretary Pompeo about the 25th Amendment," was Mnuchin's reply. "I don't recall it being in that circumstance, and I surely don't recall that I stopped the conversation when General Milley came up... [the amendment] came up very briefly in our conversation." Pompeo has denied discussing the 25th Amendment, per the outlet.
"[We] both believed that the best outcome was a normal transition of power, which was working, and neither one of us contemplated in any serious format the 25th Amendment," he continued.
Section Four of the 25th Amendment allows for the cabinet to remove the president from office should the vice president and a majority of its members deem him unfit to serve. Mnuchin was one of the few original Trump cabinet members to serve throughout his entire term.
The Jan. 6 committee released its final report in December after spending more than one year conducting high-profile public hearings and numerous interviews into the events of that day. The report heavily criticized former President Donald Trump for allegedly calling for a violent insurrection to keep himself in power. Its members unanimously voted to issue criminal referrals to the Department of Justice against the former president earlier this month.

The penis piano player? Everyone sure seems to dance to his tune!
Don’t believe every thing you read. Other than this, Miley is a traitorous snake, and you can take that to the bank. I’m reserving judgment on Mnuchin until I hear more evidence.
Not the stupid party. Just the go along to get along party.
My brother-in-law as Chief of Staff for a Republican Senator a few years back. But he talks like a hard-line Democrat. I asked him why and he said “To get anything done in DC, you have to hold hands with the opposition.” Translation: to spend OUR money, they cuts deals. There are virtually no friendlies in DC.
And one of the midgets running for President.
Yep.
Why would anyone trust Pompeo? Somethings not right about that guy. Supposed to be so smart and everything. But I don’t see it
You are absolutely correct IMO.
He was head of the CIA. He knows traitorous deeds he won’t discuss...likely out of fear.
The logic of your post is beyond the comprehension of some on this forum.
98% of our elected officials are beholden or compromised. Trump was and is beholden to nobody.
It is why that 98% must destroy Trump or at least sit on their hands while tha assassination.takes place.
His very existence is a direct threat to that 98% and their way of life.
But hey-Orange Man Bad.
He lied?
Democrats called for his resignation right?
I’ve heard rumors there were at least 15 Attempts on his life while President.
I’ve seen around here, that the Secret Service was required to obey Donald’s private bodyguards. His top guard made all arrangements and frequently left some critical details unknown to the secret service.
Gee I wonder why??
I don’t doubt that. I was, of course referring to his political assassination, not a physical one.
I don’t have any faith in a single government entity any more, including the military. That hurts me more than I can say.
After the discussion they decided they were the ones wacked out, so they dropped it.
When you’re on the “Short List” of those qualified to invoke the 25th Amendment, you don’t just blurt out to the others “I think we should invoke the 25th Amendment and remove the President from office”.
Instead, you beat around the bush. In the presence of other co-conspirators, you might say: “The president doesn’t seem up to it today”, waiting to hear their reactions. If they are dismissive or just ignore it, you don’t push it. To you and any other co-conspirators present, you “brought up” the 25th Amendment. To the target, you were just making small talk and didn’t even consider that you wanted to remove the president from office.
