Loudoun County parents are speaking out against a resident’s petition that calls to ban hate speech from school board meetings following a school board meeting in which parents lambasted school officials over their handling of a sexual assault case.
The petition, signed by several hundred county residents and started by 19-year-old Andrew Pihonak, a Loudoun County resident and member of the LGTBTQ community, calls to “ban hate speech in Loudoun School Board meetings” after a man called homosexuality “immoral” and quoted a violent Bible verse during the public comment period of the Dec. 13 board meeting. Parents present at the meeting and seeking accountability from the school board for a special grand jury report, which found the district failed to alert the community of multiple sexual assaults within the district, told the Daily Caller News Foundation the one comment is not representative of their efforts and that their demands have nothing to do with the LGBTQ community.

Any ban by any government agency on speech is a violation of the Constitution.
The problem with banning “hate speech” is who gets to decide what is and what is not hate speech. The reason we have a first amendment is because our founding fathers understood human nature and the definition of “hate speech” would soon become anything the people in power don’t like.

I’m actually all in favor of the victims’ parents suing each school board member individually to the point they end up digging in garbage cans.
Was the petition signing done at a public place (where you can remain more or less anonymous if choosing not to sign) or was it done door-to-door (where the nuts getting in your face also know where you live)? If those hundreds of signatures are real, how many were provided under duress?
The left invented the term “hate speech” because they hate the thought of freedom of speech. It’s their way of eliminating freedom of speech while pretending not to.
They then define “hate speech” as not agreeing with radical leftist dogma, and proceed to eliminate freedom of speech and thought.
The school board needs reminding that they’re nothing but a GOVERNMENT institution funded by WE THE PEOPLE and this REQUIRES them to abide by the Constitution and respect our RIGHTS. This isn’t some discretion they have control over. You don’t get to shield yourself from speech you don’t want to hear.
The term ‘hate speech’ has no standard and cannot be used as a vague term against selectively and subjectively chosen speech you don’t like, just because it is under the banner of ‘safety’ or ‘inclusiveness’. You are government. We have free speech. End of discussion.
Why hasn’t this board been replaced
Oh, I would absolutely love to have someone come to my door with the intention of getting me to sign any petition under duress.
I would teach them what "duress" actually means!
On the contrary, I imagine that such petitions are usually circulated in highly predisposed environments, where everyone is nodding, slapping each other on the back, and congratulating themselves.
