Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said former President Donald Trump‘s influence is waning, reiterating his blame towards his political foe for GOP shortcomings in the midterms.
Mr. McConnell, who has had an increasingly strained relationship with Mr. Trump since the 2021 Capitol riot, said Mr. Trump helped cast voters an unappealing image of the Republican Party that broke the trust of the electorate.
“We lost support that we needed among independents and moderate Republicans, primarily related to the view they had of us as a party — largely made by the former president — that we were sort of nasty and tended toward chaos,” Mr. McConnell told NBC News.
Mr. McConnell added: “And oddly enough, even though that subset of voters did not approve of President Biden, they didn’t have enough confidence in us in several instances to give us the majority we needed.”
Republicans greatly fell short of expectations in a year that was anticipated to be a “red wave.”
The GOP only narrowly took control of the House, while Democrats kept their hold on the Senate.
Mr. McConnell said he would be actively seeking “quality candidates” for 2024 after he said Republicans underperformed in every state.
The Kentucky Republican said the GOP‘s performance was “fatal” in Arizona, New Hampshire, and Georgia.

Mitch knows from both internal and public polls that GOP voters are far more turned off by himself than by …just about anyone. But he doesn’t give a rip.
He’s obsessed. Does he ever do anything besides attack President Trump? When has he criticized Biden?

McConnell turned off republican voters by spending millions of dollars to reelect Lisa Murkowski who was running against a republican opponent. That money could have been used in any of a half dozen close senate races around the country and could have made a difference in several of them, but he chose to envest heavily in that one.
Also, his wife is a Chinese spy... or a Taiwanese spy, but seriously, she a spy.

Spending the rest of his life in prison, if we had proof of all his wrongdoings and collusions. The Chinese probably has quite a list on him and other senior politicians.

McConnell is making such an asss of himself with his idiotic and unfounded attacks on Trump.
For every vote he thinks he’s getting acting like a commie-wing D, he’s turned off ten more votes.
I think Trump turned off a lot of Republican voters by acting too often like an idiot. My wife and I held our nose and voted for him again in 2020. But we know a lot of people the second time around who didn’t.
Mitch doesn’t get it. The Washington elites he surrounds himself with are not the base. The base is MAGA, and wants MAGA policies. The fact that the Senate is clueless about this , being neocons, is one of the reasons the Red Wave was only a Red puddle. The other is because pro-death fanatics who think killing babies is the ultimate human right turned out in decent numbers (unfortunately). It had not a thing to do with Trump or MAGA. It was because most of the squishes who are the current leadership of the Republican party tried to distance themselves from MAGA, and gave no money or support to MAGA candidates.
