Conserve Energy: Extreme Cold Causing Gas Supply Shortage Due to frigid temperatures and an increased demand on interstate pipelines, Con Edison asks natural gas customers to help conserve supplies Posted on: December 24, 2022 - 9:49pm
This message is being sent on behalf of ConEdison as it is of community wide interest.
Please conserve energy as we face a heating gas shortage across the Northeast. Simple things can make a big difference.
Set your thermostats lower than usual if health permits
Postpone using major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers, and clothes dryers until other times
Turn off non-essential lights, equipment, and appliances
Make sure heating vents are not blocked by furniture, carpeting, or anything else that could obstruct the flow of heat
Find more ways to save energy
This gas shortage was prompted by continuing frigid weather and the resulting high demand for electricity, and for natural gas, which powers most of the region’s electric generating stations.
Owners of interstate natural gas pipelines have reported equipment problems and high demand are challenging their ability to provide gas throughout the Northeast.
We apologize for any inconvenience and wish everyone safe and happy holidays.
Here's an email I got from Con Edison - in a small town called New York City.

Maybe a lump of coal from Santa would not be bad.
Coal skuttle sales may rebound.
And unplug your electric cars
The problem is that much of our natural gas is now going to Europe, to make up for the pipelines we likely took out to keep Germany from getting them restarted.
You guys are now paying the price.
That plus all of the NIMBYs and politicians in NY not allowing pipelines to be built from the PA gas wells.
You will have no heat and you will be happy.
They’re going medieval on themselves.
I suspect the empty NY gibbets have something to do with that.
never heard of a gas shortage
As a refuge from deep blue Ct now living in SC, I witnessed how eco zealots strangled energy production for years and electric rates sky rocket. Now they’re reaping what they sowed. I say let them shiver and freeze in the dark.
Extreme Eco communists out to destroy America and kill Americans by freezing them to death from Cold Causing Gas Shortages in Northeast in a nation flush with fossil fuels.
Brought to you by communists , reprobates and liarcrats.
Rigged "elections" have consequences.
I looked over the list. They forgot one: Be sure to vote for Republicans next time.
That would be the most helpful tip of all. Unfortunately, it would probably fall on deaf ears.
“It is to laugh”
Americans used to joke about how in Russia the govt runs everything and nothing works.
Now it’s happening here.
New York can suck it.
pretty sure Biden just blocked a NG pipeline in that area. He legitimately carried the New England states so here you go.
Oh, things DO add up.
Namely in the pockets of those elected officials whose “energy policies” benefited China.
Natural gas exports are limited by pipeline capacity to get it to the LNG export facilities and the facility capacities.
The biggest growth in natural gas use was the utilities move to natural gas to generate electricity to replace closed coal fired power plants.
