"Each model of the newly-selected “Slim Silhouette” will cost $2,000 to $3,000, but prototypes the city tested out cost $12,000 to $20,000 each."
They couldn't go to Home Depot and get a good trash can for $40?

I'm sure the people of San Francisco are relieved that their tax dollars are being spent on such important issues as trash cans - and not homeless, drug addicted, filthy streets.

The people of ancient Britain built Stone Henge.
The Pharaohs build the pyramids.
Caesar built the Coliseum.
Paris build Notre Dame.
San Fransisco built a trash can.

It’s rummage resistant which is good. You can’t retrieve your needle after you have tossed it...nor can anyone else

Oh how wonderful ingenuity of Leftists. How blessed San Francisco is to have so much focus and industriousness on trashy culture.

Fancy trash can there. I assume it’s made of solid silver. That’s the only way each one could cost thousands of dollars.
Or maybe it’s not made of silver, and most of that money is kickback money.
Hmm. I wonder which possibility is more likely here.

Looks like a ported woofer design.

That’s almost defence department level spending! Good job SF! Maybe you could recoup costs by selling the design to other leftie cities.

They would wind up in stolen shopping carts.

They would wind up in stolen shopping carts. These will be stolen as well and wind up in recycling centers, where they fetch around $10 each for drug money - the recycling center will sell them back to SF for thousands of dollars each.

Well...San franShitco did design an appropriate remembrance of its place in history and now will always be remembered, not as the builders of Stonehenge, nor the builders of the pyramids, the coliseum or Norte Dame but as the trash can of these United States. Henceforth, when shown in the history books of the future, “San franShitco” will become synonymous with “The trashcan”. What a fitting end.
