Is Trump now forced to run third-party?
HILL ^ | 12/24/2022 | DOUGLAS MACKINNON, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR

Posted on 12/24/2022 10:34:31 AM PST by ChicagoConservative27

At a certain point, all decisions and election chances in politics come down to basic math. No matter how some consultants, pollsters or campaign managers may attempt to complicate the process to justify their fees or salaries paid by a candidate or company, it still comes down to this: Does the math finish on the “plus side” for him or her to run, and does it finish on the plus side for the candidate to win?

My mother used to say, “If you can read, you can cook.” In the arena of political elections, if you can do basic addition and subtraction, you can honestly advise a candidate whether to run. Former President Donald Trump has some of that basic math working against him — but also, for him.

What he and his mercurial ego really will do becomes the political question of the 2024 presidential cycle.

With each passing week, there are reports of more and more Republicans suffering from “Trump fatigue.” Although many still strongly approve of most of Trump’s policies from his four years in the White House, they have grown increasingly tired of his perceived juvenile antics and insults. Worse for Trump, many now blame him for the GOP losing the chance to take control of the Senate — not only in the November midterms, when he forced marginal candidates on the party with his endorsements, but also back in 2021 when he suppressed GOP voter turnout with negative comments and attacks in Georgia’s runoff election.

“That would hurt you more than it would the GOPe.”

The GOP has done everything they can to scuttle themselves for the 2024. They have been denying their best, and I feel only chance, of getting a proven person to run. DeSantis can’t win in my mind as his achievements have been based upon education environment, and health, which are DNC strong points, and Trump has already proven the type of values we need to make this country prosper in the position with controlling moves against foreign groups wishing harm to the US citizens and border control. His own party doesn’t want him so they try to trash him and join the competition doing it.

They talk about Perot. Perot, in 1992, got 19% of the vote when the elected Clinton got 43% of the vote. Clinton was the first Democrat since 1964 to win a majority of states and was the second-lowest for any winning candidate in the 20th century after Woodrow Wilson in 1912 . Bush got 37% of the vote that was the smallest receipt of votes for a sitting president to be re-elected since Howard Taft in 1912. There is a real reason why Perot was important to the election, it killed Bush. The same will happen to the GOP in 2024.

Get real. There will never be a true conservative president elected again.

Get real? As if our voting system isn't corrupt and gives us accurate results?

That would hurt you more than it would the GOPe.

At this point, what difference does it make? Pain is coming either way.

If the left truly controlled the Supreme Court, elections wouldn't matter anymore. Activist judges would simply find leftism to be constitutionally required, and the other branches would be powerless. So that is the critical fight that we can never lose. As it is, both the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms and the right to free political speech in Citizens United survived by a single vote on the Supreme Court, as both were five four decisions.

That's why the whole doom and gloom narrative of "we might as well just let them win because they get what they want anyway" is so freaking dangerous. If they get control of the Court just once, and we likely lose the right to keep and bear arms, and forums like this might be shut down as being considered "contributions in kind" to particular candidates and therefore violate election law.

I do think also you have to give the GOP as a party credit for killing that 6 trillion dollar spending bill, and especially I do think you bring up a very good point with respect to letting voters see the true consequences of implementing progressivism. But I think the best place to let that happen is on the state and especially the local level, because that's where the victims of it are primarily other progressives rather than the rest of us. Let them learn their lessons by living in their own ruined backyards, not by ruining ours. And certainly not by giving them control of the national government, especially the Supreme Court, and being able to mandate their madness for the rest of the country.

You keep playing semantics to dodge the point. Again, pick whatever phrase you want. "MAGA", whatever. My frame of reference for who are the hardcore Trump supporters are those who would vote for Trump, and only Trump, as the GOP nominee, and would follow him if he left to start a third party. Call them widgets for all I care.

That's 25% of the electorate, absolute tops.

” back in 2021 when he suppressed GOP voter turnout with negative comments and attacks in Georgia’s runoff election.”

Screw that. Losing the runoff with Herschel and the 2020 elections is all on the people of Georgia. Also about the crooked elections they allowed in the counties around Atlanta.

Agree.

51% Harris (or other Dem) winning in 2024 due to
a split among the two conservative style parties and a few Libertarians would be the end of America.

We are not Israel or France with splinter parties each making under the table deals to support a temporary ruling administrator “forming a government.” Israel has had Arabs aligning with observant Orthodox Jews to agree to a deal with a larger group to form a shared government. A shameful situation we should shun.

One doesn't have to be hardcore or self identify as MAGA to vote for Trump over anybody in the corrupt Uniparty.

To address your point I requested that you ask the same question about any of the establishment Republicans and Democrats? And you dodge the point by not answering the question.

But I’m not running. I didn’t get impeached on hoaxes. I didn’t get raided by your FBI.. He did.

He can cry me a river. The guy is a multi-billionaire, married to a supermodel, wildly popular with tens of millions of people, etc.. I'm wagering the overwhelming majority of those of us who voted for him have a more difficult life than he does. If he didn't love the crowd support, adulation, power, and perks that come with being President, he wouldn't be running again.

I was robbed too, chin

I voted for the guy too, so I was robbed as well. But it's not just a semantic difference to say who was robbed. If I was robbed of my choice in 2020, then my goal is to get my choice in 2024. That may or may not be the same guy I voted for in 2020. That applies to all 70 plus million of us who voted for the guy.

And it isn't justice for all of us if Trump gets in in 2024 if he's not the candidate we prefer time. That just means we got screwed twice. That's why I don't like the idea that Trump somehow "deserves" the GOP nomination in 2024. He only "deserves" it if a majority of us prefer him as the nominee.

If not Trump then who? Outside of DeSantis, there is nothing.

And I don’t even think DeSantis will run.

“Get real? As if our voting system isn’t corrupt and gives us accurate results”?

Thanks for agreeing with what I said. You just worded it a little differently.

Right now we have ‘Selections’, not elections.

Turns out Andy Partridge was right:

A little boy asked me should he put his vote upon the left?
A little boy asked me should he put his vote upon the right?
I say it really doesn’t matter where you put your vote
‘Cause someone else will come along and move it
And it’s always been the same
It’s just a complicated game
Oh, it’s just a complicated game

I actually had to look up who Andy Partridge was.

Anyway, he's correct.

There's no chain of custody, there's no signature validation and the courts don't care.
