Sounds like I-90 is closed in South Dakota. Started in the far west, but now extended to Sioux Falls. Rescues underway.
.SHORT TERM...(Today - Friday) Issued at 420 AM MST Thu Dec 22 2022 A very cold morning indeed across all of southeast Wyoming and the western Nebraska Panhandle, with the vast majority of areas seeing current temperatures around -20 deg F with a few sites approaching -30 F across portions of Converse County in southeast Wyoming. The low temperature so far at the Cheyenne Airport has been a chilling -23 deg F, with potential for additional cooling as sunrise slowly approaches. This is not a daily record low, but does have at least some significance as the all-time record for temperature drops for KCYS is 64 degrees over 19 hours, set in 1950. Cheyenne saw a high of 42 degrees shortly after 100 PM on Wednesday, and has fallen 65 degrees in an incredible 15 hours. It appears we have a new record for all durations of temperature drops! Otherwise, dangerously low wind chills persist with a steady breeze of 15-30 MPH helping push wind chills into the -50 to -65 range for much of the CWA. Did not make any changes to Wind Chill Warnings as daytime highs will most likely remain well below zero, especially considering the addition of fresh snow from the snow squalls on Wednesday. Winds will get a bit stronger as well this afternoon, which should hold wind chills to minus 30 or colder. Just one more night of this before we start to see some moderation!
Emphasis mine.
Shoot, although conditions won’t be that severe in my region (Mid-South USA), we’ll likely have a few hours of whiteout or near whiteout around midnight tonight. With wind chills around -20 deg. F, I expect a little of that sort of rescue activity even here.
Heck, Galveston is predicted to be in the mid 20s overnight!
This Out Of Control Global Warming Is Hell!
mid afternoon in Mo. -5 with a 35 mph breeze to dry up the sweat.
NWS is sticking with -3 here. It was 10 deg. F on my back porch thermometer when I went out a few minutes ago. The wind is nasty — I’d say we are getting close to -10 deg. wind chill, and that doesn’t count the bazillion slivers of snow (the wind breaks up the flakes) that get driven into one’s face. (If I have to go out again, for over 5 minutes, the full face cover ski mask is going on!)
Now to find the chapstick...
In Billings yesterday the high was -16 or so. Today and tomorrow around 0 degrees. Saturday is forecast to be 50 degrees! I bet they won’t have any headlines about that.
Des Moines, Iowa, suburbs: real temp -10 with 40+mph wind, windchill touching -40. Lot of towing bans including all of I-80 across the state.
Storm through Saturday AM.
Yet the democrats and other corrupt politicians say the earth is doomed because the temp will warm 1/2 of 1 degree over the next century....
Ef them.
Bro! Your post #2 got nuked.
Ha! I thought the post was relatively restrained. I guess ‘t*t’ would have cleared the bar.
Before driving through the mountains of Idaho (East Coaster here) I had no idea.
Those mountains are the real deal.
Ouch
She must have returned to the state.
