According to the survey, 75 percent of respondents will hit a point where they need time away from the crowd. They can be creative in their ways of escaping — 1 in 4 has hidden in a relative’s house to take a moment alone, while 37 percent have gone so far as to make an excuse and leave the house altogether.
The survey was commissioned by Motel 6 and conducted by OnePoll. It examined the delicate balance between wanting to spend time with family and also needing a bit of space.
Of those surveyed, 95 percent believe it’s important to spend the holidays with family, and 2 in 5 of those planning to stay with family admit that it can be a stressful experience.
The average respondent is staying with family for 3 1/2 days this holiday season –- but the sleeping arrangements might be one reason they’re not staying longer. When hosting family, nearly 40 percent say finding sleeping arrangements is one of the most stressful parts of preparing for guests.

The liberal ones are less than an hour. They just can’t seem to keep their yapper shut.
No wonder better-half spends so much time with Grandchildren

Being so far away from my children and grand children and great grand children I enjoy fussing with wife (both 80) and she is immobile so we plan as if it were our last. Yes they all visited last Christmas (well most of them) I cooked and had a nice time.
Thank goodness we don’t have that problem.
Me neither. My family loves to hang out with each other and cut up. In fact, we have such a good time on Thanksgiving day we almost always meet up again 2 days later on Saturday for a few hours.
Of course, that could have more to do with us all love watching the Iron Bowl together.
More stressful than staying at a Motel 6?
The moment they left I'd heave a deep, contented sigh and say, "Hush! Listen to the silence!" Which pissed my wife off something royally. But I couldn't help it. It was just the way I felt.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year when we all get together for food, drink, and joyful conversation. We all look forward to it! I have the kindest, loving, wonderful family. They are a joy to be around!
Lyrics still valid today.
We’re all bloody worthless, just greedy human scum.
The numbers all add up to a negative sum.
Where is our future, the things we’ve done and said!
Let’s just push the button, we’d be better off dead!
The sins of all our fathers, being dumped on us — the sons.
The only choice we’re given is how many megatons?
i did. after i got married and moved away, my sisters and parents were like strangers.
and don’t get me started on the in laws.
We stayed in hotels as soon as we could afford to.

Christmas -- it's the yearly sacrifice for all the family. Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men. It's all in there. Weird stuff.

1 Samuel 20
5. And David said to Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meal; but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field until the third day at evening:
6. If your father should miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Beth-Lehem his city; for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family:
7. If he says thus, It is well; your servant shall have peace; but if he should be very angry, then you should know that he is determined to do evil:

Next thing you know, the son of that red-haired youth (otherwise known as a ginger) will be found stashed deep cover in Bethlehem, which is a house of bread.
The great God of Abraham always gets there first to put His sticky prints on absolutely everything!
Like father like son! Just the type of son who'd get "lost" in the Temple for three days, going about his father's business, asking questions.

We'll leave the light on for you.
So true. Source of much conflict when visiting liberal relatives. My kids were anxious for us to leave. Now, as adults with their own kids, they don't want to visit those liberal relatives and they're becoming a distant memory.
