Congressional appropriators dropped the $1.7 trillion, 4,155-page omnibus spending bill at 1:30 A.M. ET Tuesday, giving lawmakers days to read it before the government shuts down Friday.
The bill would fund the government through September 2023 and would boost defense spending by $76 billion, totaling $858 billion. Domestic spending is $773 billion.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has chalked up the higher increase in defense spending compared to domestic spending as a Republican victory, even though Democrats managed to pass their $700 billion Inflation Reduction Act, which boosted domestic expenditures on climate change and other leftist domestic priorities.

Right on both accounts. The corruption and graft are endemic now and the system has morphed into a full on kleptocracy.

Most certainly, after taking and passing the required Congressional courses - “Speed Reading for Elected Members of Congress” and “Memory Power - “How to Remember Everything You Read in a Bill and the Relevant Statutes” - every member has read the entire mega spending bill before the upcoming Kwanza holiday. In reality - they only know where their loot is in the bill.
Also concerning is that most of the bill was written by non-Congressional members.
This has been going on for decades with accumulating detrimental effects on our country.

The extra 1 trillion in spending gets counted in GDP calculations. So 3-4% of GDP. Remember this when the GDP numbers fall by 2%. Deficit spending helps the illusion of healthy GDP. Government deficit spending is a big portion of what’s keeping “recession” from technically occurring.
One really should read the bill...or try. It is mind bogglingly obtuse...and filled with a crap load of zeroes. 4,155 pages. Puhleaze.
When the founding fathers established Congress, our country was in good shape. Unfortunately through the years a decaying cancer has set in thanks to corrupt politicians. Why the hell do we need Congress anymore, what good do they do?
