Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan: Trump ‘at his lowest point ever’
Washington Times ^

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican weighing a 2024 White House bid, said Monday he believes former President Donald Trump is “at his lowest point ever,” as the House Jan. 6 committee wrapped up its investigation into what Hogan described as “one of the darkest days in American history.”

In an interview with The Associated Press shortly before the committee released its recommendations, Hogan said he believes the former president should be held accountable, after he “inflamed kind of a riotous mob to go attack the seat of our democracy.” However, the outgoing, term-limited governor was not specific about how Trump should be held accountable.

“I’m not a lawyer and don’t know what kind of legal accountability he should have, but I thought it was one of the darkest days in American history,” Hogan said, adding that the president bore some responsibility for what happened.

“The people that try to whitewash Jan. 6 as if nothing happened are delusional. It was an assault on democracy,” he said.

Later in the day, the House committee urged the Justice Department to bring criminal charges against Trump and his allies, wrapping up its investigation of the violent 2021 Capitol insurrection with what lawmakers called a “roadmap to justice.”

In the interview, Hogan said he did not know whether Trump would benefit politically from a criminal prosecution, though he said the FBI’s August raid of Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s resort home in Palm Beach, Florida, “got his supporters all fired up.”

“I think President Trump is at a low point in his career,” Hogan said. “I mean, I think he peaked in November of 2020, and, you know, it was slow to erode some of the base,

Because I do not wish to be TOTALLY IRRELEVANT by staying on the sidelines or vote for a 3rd party. Even Trump realizes that. He wants to run as a republican because he is smart enough to know if he runs as 3rd party, he will lose bigger than in 2020.

I disagree that the ‘split the party’ argument still applies.

And I ONLY say this because of Trump.

Trump got 81 million (real, actual) votes. The current GOP party membership is 32 million people. That means he draws from all other parties and independents.

Would YOU stay loyal to the GOP party over Trump?

If only HALF his voters left to join him in a new party, they would be the biggest party

I will stay loyal to whoever wins GOP nomination in 2024.
And I do not contribute to RNC. I contribute only to individual candidates.

Those two statement are contradictory AND do not address my actual question.

If Trump started a new party would you stay ‘loyal’ to the GOP party that has let us down for decades.

That STILL does not address my question. It’s the GOP party that has become democrat-lite.

So I ask again.. would you stay loyal to the GOP party if Trump started a new one.

When Hogan and Christie run for President in 2024, put them on opposite sides of the debate stage or it will flip over.

Yes, because I do notlike to support a sure loser in elections. Trump will lose by 30 million votes running om 3rd party.

I am not happy with RINO’s either. But I do not chase rainbows. I accept my better choice. I am never going to sit on the side lines and help ANY democrat. They are all worse than RINO’s. Every one of them. And the democrats are disciplined and seldom eat their own.

I hear the word RINO 100 times more often than DINO. That tells me many republican voters are low IQ.

Trump got 81 million votes. The GOP party only has 32 million members. That ‘split the party’ excuse does not work any more with those kind of numbers.

That may have been true in the past, but not with the strength of the Trump base.

Of only HALF his voters joined him in a new party the GOP would be dead. And they deserve to be.

81 million Trump supporters vs 32 million GOP members, who keep losing because they have become Democrat-lite, and you want to keep voting for them... that sure makes one of us stupid.

Keep voting for them and hope for different results. What’s that the definition of?

The ‘split the vote’ argument was always stupid... with Trump’s support its incredibly stupid.
