Just as an FYI, the police in NYC arrest thousands of persons, 33,000 arrests in 2021. Arresting them is all the police can do. The courts release them as soon as they appear for arraignment. Most of the small minority that actually go to jail are released on probation and serve little time.

The NY State Legislature and the NY Courts let the criminals run free.
