Elon Musk restored the Twitter accounts of some journalists who were originally suspended after he claimed they disseminated information about his location.
Initially, Musk gave the journalists a seven-day suspension. However, after major backlash from the public, he decided to put the decision in Twitter users' hands.
The reporters who were suspended were from liberal outlets such as the Washington Post, The New York Times, and CNN.
Musk conducted a 24-hour poll on his account asking if the reporters should be reinstated "now" or in "seven days."
In a 59% to 41% vote, almost 3.7 million Twitter users decided to put the journalists back on the social media platform "now."
"The people have spoken. Accounts who doxxed my location will have their suspension lifted now," Musk tweeted on Friday night.
Dubbed a "Thursday Night Massacre," CNN correspondent Donie O'Sullivan, New York Times technology reporter Ryan Mac and Washington Post reporter Drew Harwell were booted off the platform earlier this week, being told they were permanently off Twitter.
The event began with the suspension of @ElonJet, an account that tracked Musk's private jet usage, in which the CEO claimed the account was shut down because of safety precautions since it was "doxxing real-time location info."
Musk then warned, "Any account doxxing real-time location info of anyone will be suspended, as it is a physical safety violation. This includes posting links to sites with real-time location info."
The reporters who were suspended had either reported on @ElonJet's suspension or had posted links to the private jet tracking on their own Twitter accounts.
He wussed out.
Warning shot.
Let the users decide. That’s very smart.
If you don’t like the outcome, join and vote.
And Elon isn’t the “judge” (that’s the problem the previous owners ran into).
This is not good, but it’s what I expect.
I don’t think anyone out there is worth the sh!t they produce on a sunday morning.
When he does this he’s sending the wrong signal - As an admin for several forums I’ve found that if you ban and lift, ban and lift, ban and lift you’re just flexing muscles.
A decisive leader thinks about the action and it’s impact on overall strategy and tactics - Then executes and doesn’t revisit the idea.
This is just a spoiled 20 year old admin on a car forum sorta stuff.
“In a 59% to 41% vote, almost 3.7 million Twitter users decided to put the journalists back on the social media platform “now.””
I wonder what their reasoning is?
The folk spoke.
“In a 59% to 41% vote, almost 3.7 million Twitter users”
How many of them are left extremists and computer bots?
No big deal, consider them warned.
The policy still stands, and they’ll suspend themselves again soon, anyway.
Smart move by Musk.
I hope he kept Keith Olbermann locked out. And his dog’s account!
Justice and mercy.

It is smart. He’s not playing to us, he’s playing to the country as a whole, which, no doubt, disapproves of his banning of ‘journalist’ accounts (since the media spoon-feeds them).
Star Trek had a really good episode where Kirk gets transported to a parallel universe which is filled with the same people, but they’re all evil (kind of like the State Department in the past 50 years, turning all evil). In it, good-Kirk goes to the bad ship and quickly realizes that he had to act bad to survive and try to get home, so he acts bad enough to fool them. BUT bad-Kirk never had a chance, just no way for a person as cruel as bad-Kirk to fake being good...so he and the other 3 or 4 are locked up for the duration.
Same here - the Leftists are Pure Evil...and now they’re expected to behave??? Simply not possible. They’ll be getting themselves booted, one-by-one, and for good cause.
Sensible business decision.
He is about free speech, but he gave them a stern warning.
And put the issue to a user poll.
And this was the major news story for days.
Well played...
Warning shot.
To flush them out.
Roughly 3.7 million of them
He's too hands on. Twitter will consume Musk if he lets it. It's taken on a life of it's own. He obviously can't control it.
The Genie can't be put back in the bottle. Outside forces have already taken control of it...again.
Twitter could financially ruin him.
Twitter files are useless after the fact information. They serve no purpose except to keep brain dead losers entertained. The same losers that kept it going to fund their own destruction.
Exactly.
That isn’t leadership. That is mob rule
And how many of those 59% were completely ok with Pre Trump and others on the Right being banned?
