I’m going to guess, the committee found zero malfeasance in the tax returns - a nothing burger. So Plan B is to release them to ‘the public’ to gin-up fabricated outrage over the amounts paid. I imagine the usual left wing ‘reporters’ will be drafting their articles over the weekend to go to print on cue.
I believe Trump has a great case to ask the USSC to issue an emergency stay of any release. There is USSC precedence that obtaining private information with the intent to publicly release them so as to damage the “private citizen” and for no other reason. I believe the committee said that they wanted the tax files for legislative reasons and that they would not be made public.

Yes, Left wing “reporters” who know nothing of how business or the tax code work - or that the tax code works the way it does because Congress made it that way, at the behest of lobbyists employed by business, and the fact that Dems have controlled the House (where tax legislation has to originate) 68 out of the last 90 years https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2020/jun/25/control-house-and-senate-1900/
While it was outright falsehoods regarding both guns and automobiles that woke me up (decades ago) to the fact that the media is completely uninformed and biased, on every single issue that I have ever had personal knowledge about, the media has gotten it wrong. I know quite a bit about the tax code and business, and the only media outlet that gets any of that right is the Wall Street Journal. I fully expect outright lies, and the elimination of any facts that might make Trump look like an ordinary businessman taking very ordinary deductions.
