It seems strange to me that it is perfectly legal to have 20 concubines if you are married but not have 20 wives.

The news today featured a story that TLC (the Learning Channel) is beginning a show “MILF Manor”. It features attractive middle aged mothers ( all white in the publicity photo) seeking to copulate with each other’s sons. This polygamous leader has managed to convince twenty women to ignore their husbands ( or perhaps at the insistence of their husbands) cater to his sexual needs.
Sorry but at the core of American hedonism and decadence there are willing, vapid, disturbed women. Later they claim coercion but that simply is not the case.
Funny how we never hear about this happening in the FLDS, or Fundementalist Later Day Saints.

The Mormon cult polygamy case has nothing to do with vapid women. It has to do with 13 year old girls being told by mother, father, God’s own prophet, that they belong to the prophet, after being raised and schooled their entire lives within the cult. No TV, no news, just the certainty that the world outside is evil, dangerous, fallen.
Some of the minor girls fled foster care with an 18 y.o. “sister wife.” They are terrified of the world and separation from everything they have known.
Sorry but at some point a human being is responsible for his or her actions. What is the mindset of the wives of other men who put themselves at the sexual disposal of the “prophet”? What is the mindset of the men who agree to allow their wives to service the “prophet”. Vapid may be too kind of a term.

Where, unfortunately, there is little chance that they will be better off. Most will be put on psych drugs with the inevitable suicides. Damned if ya do and damned if ya don’t.
Deprogramming these kids is a long term effort. I’ve always tried to explain to people when you dabble on these edges of darkness you’re inviting confusion, sorrow and ultimately a loss of yourself. It will rob you no matter what and you cannot come out of them unscathed. Scars on your soul heal but the scars remain.
