The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill during its lame-duck session Thursday in a last-ditch effort to allow Puerto Rico to “decolonize.”
The bill, which passed 233-191 with support from 16 Republicans and has very little chance of passing the Senate, would allow the U.S. territory to hold a first-ever binding referendum on whether to become a state or gain independence. It would ultimately offer the Puerto Rico voters three options: statehood, independence, or independence with free association.

Didn’t they already have a referendum, and the result was that they wanted to stay a colony?
This referendum doesn’t have status quo as an option.
San Juan has plenty of fancy hotels for the tourist industry. Brothels, too, I’m sure. Maybe they can become part of Cuba?
I seem to remember that they’ve always voted not to be a state because of the tax problem. If they became a US state they would be subject to federal income taxes which they aren’t now. Is that correct.?
I vote for independence. Let them take care of their own issues that they have made for and from themselves.
If they vote for independence then most of the people on that island, that are living off of Uncle Sam, will lose those checks. That ain’t happening. Especially after the hurricane.
