It has now been over a week since I wrote about the abominable border bill that Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) cosponsored with Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.), and Tillis’s motivation for doing this is still a head-scratcher for me. The particulars are in that column, so I won’t rehash them here. This is going to be a broader examination of the pitiful state of congressional Republicans.
Immediately after the midterms, I told my colleagues that I truly believe that the GOP has maybe two election cycles to get its you-know-what together before it is relegated to permanent minority party status. That’s the real result of the disastrous midterm elections. The Republicans didn’t win anything at the national level in November. All they managed to do was severely underperform when they had virtually every historical election factor working in their favor.
What should be obvious for Beltway Republicans is that, if they can’t win when the stars are perfectly aligned, they’re going to get creamed whenever they aren’t.
(This is the point in most of my columns where the Defeat Chorus starts whining about all elections being rigged, which not only isn’t true — explain Republican dominance at the state level — but prevents a serious conversation about how to make things better. I’ll probably just keep reposting this paragraph in any column that has to do with the GOP and elections.)
When I see what Republican senators like Tillis, Mitch McConnell, and Mitt Romney are up to, I’m convinced that they don’t care if they are in the minority forever. I invite anybody to provide evidence that I’m wrong. I want to be wrong.

When the republicans, safe in their own in public office, don’t care whether they are in the majority or minority we lose all leverage over them.
“..When the republicans, safe in their own in public office, don’t care whether they are in the majority or minority we lose all leverage over them....”
It’s just one great, big, happy bird (UniParty) with two wings.
The above is a classic example.
“This is the point in most of my columns where the Defeat Chorus starts whining about all elections being rigged, which not only isn’t true...”
No, not all elections are rigged, d-bag. But the elections in heavily Democrat urban districts most certainly are. And now that they are willing coordinate not only at the state level, but at the national level, they can use those districts to steal nearly any statewide office or Senate seat, and the Presidency.
Tillis is no doubt bought and paid for by the Cheap Labor Express lobby.
How’d that work out for Reagan.
Everyone has to realize that its easier to fundraise when you are in the minority. When you are in the majority you have to provide results. RINOs hate that. And mitch just loves to give his “live to fight another day” speech again and again and again!
RE: How’d that work out for Reagan.
Here was Reagan’s preferred solution in 1980:

In a 1980 primary debate, the Great Communicator indicated his preferred option. “Rather than… talking about putting up a fence, why don’t we… make it possible for them to come here legally with a work permit? Then, while their working and earning here, they pay taxes here, and when they want to go back, they can go back.”
We actually had a progam similar to this under President Eisenhower called the Bracero Program.
Of course, he eventually backed down on this proposal and signed the disastrous amnesty bill near the end of his term. A huge mistake IMHO.
Reagan made a deal with the rats and his big mistake was not making them come through on their end first. Of course the reneged. It is want and who they are. So it ended up being a horrible decision by RR that did a lot of damage.
Reagan later acknowledged this was his greatest regret as president.
the idiot can’t even spell his own name right.
Is it? The Republican establishment has proven it has no problem joining Democrats in rigging elections. Thus, a great candidate like Kari Lake, who oppose open borders and who likely won her race easily, was denied the governorship in Arizona. And, Lisa Murkowski's of the GOP never face any consequences for supporting amnesty.
The Republican establishment doesn't care if it is in the minority so long as it maintains control of the GOP.
The idea that the base can takeover the GOP is one that is becoming increasingly delusional.
The ones in key swing states like Arizona and Georgia are. Where does that leave us?
One DUMB SOB. Change your Party, Jerk!
