Slaves were negroes - they weren’t African Americans. Why is the word negro so offensive to them?
Negroes are a race (such as there are races).
African American is a culture. Most African Americans are sons and daughters of the American revolution. They have been cultured by Democrats first to be slaves, then to be second-class citizens, and now to be welfare recipients.
Most European Americans are sons and daughters of immigrants who arrived here after the revolution (mostly from 1840 to the 1940). These immigrants assimilated into the mainstream culture and, so, are largely self-responsible, productive and law-abiding citizens.
The dramatic difference in the African American subculture and the mainstream culture can be seen in recent immigrants from Africa and from the Caribbean. The later are fast-moving up the socio-economic ladder, like the Italian-Americans did during the Twentieth Century.
