Sam Bankman-Fried, Caroline Ellison retain high-powered white collar lawyers amid FTX probe

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison have each retained high-powered criminal defense attorneys specializing in white-collar crimes amid the ongoing law enforcement probes into the collapse of their crypto empire.

The task of preventing Bankman-Fried from spending the rest of his life in prison if found guilty of the crimes he stands accused of falls to Mark Cohen, of Cohen & Gresser law firm.

Cohen, a former federal prosecutor, has represented a variety of clients including financial firms, hedge funds, executives, energy companies, and others facing federal charges. Notably, Cohen represented Jeffrey Epstein's confidante Ghislaine Maxwell in her sex trafficking trial and was a defense attorney for Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, who was a leader in the Sinaloa drug cartel.

Ellison has retained the services of Stephanie Avakian, a partner at the law firm of WilmerHale. Avakian has deep experience in legal issues related to the financial sector, as she was previously the director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Enforcement.

Fox Business' Charles Gasparino noted on Twitter that Ellison's choice of an attorney from WilmerHale has fueled speculation that "she will cooperate" with prosecutors and turn on Bankman-Fried given the firm's connections to the federal prosecutor's office in Manhattan and its reputation for securing plea deals.

Maxine Waters is a truly horrible person. But so is Sam Bankman-Fried.

My prediction is little will happen to SBF. And if the trial is held in DC, their juries are poorly educated and 100% Democrat. They will not find SBF guilty.

I thought they were broke and busted out? No way these attorneys are representing them pro bono.

Billionaires are never "broke and busted out." There's cash stashed somewhere and the lawyers know that.

Nah, he'll take a plea deal. A couple of years at Club Fed and then a nice consulting job that allows him to live the life he's become accustomed to.

He laundered billions towards liberal politicians and liberal causes. Nobody wants to be on the hook to have to pay any of this back.

Let’s just say the DOJ ain’t going to be trying too hard on this one. Why would SBF be arrested the night before he is questioned by Congress? Wouldn’t it make sense that they get him to further incriminate himself while under oath and prior to arrest? Wouldn’t it make sense to wait and see if he implicates anyone else, especially those questioning him in Congress? Lady Justice isn’t blindfolded. She’s a corrupt whore in BDSM gear, peeking through her blindfold to see what to enjoy next.

Announcing the charges against Bankman-Fried at the press conference was Joe Biden appointed US attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams. These same folks continually targeted Trump.

Maxine sandbagged congressional hearings because she knew the US. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York would pick it up. We’ll never hear where the money went. If we do, it will be so far down the road it won’t matter.

OOPS! There goes that $100,000 that he said he only had left from all the money. In fact I doubt that would even cover the retainers.
