A New Hampshire hiker died Saturday morning after he fell off the summit of a mountain and plunged hundreds of feet off a cliff while taking photos of the area with his wife, authorities said.
The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. on the summit of Mt. Willard in Crawford Notch, New Hampshire, Fish and Game said in a statement.
"The hiker’s wife heard her husband yell and looked over to notice him falling over the edge of the mountain down a steep cliff that extended to the bottom approximately 800 feet," the agency said.

I bet she “noticed” with a quick shove.
It’s not the fall that kills you; it’s the sudden stop at the end.

You’d figure that people who could make it to the top of a mountain would be more careful once they got there. A sad and tragic tale.
Mountains in New Hampshire must be awfully slippery with snow and ice this time of year. Who would go anywhere near a cliff edge covered in snow and ice? Our driveway scares me enough when it’s covered.
Geez! Where is “Snapped,” on the Oxygen channel when they are needed? ;-)
Even with regular reports of this type of thing happening, hikers continue to get too close to the edge of cliffs since they want to peer over the side or get a good selfie.
People do not understand how slippery the edges of those cliffs have become after decades and decades of water pouring over the rocks during rain showers. Also, moss sometimes grows over the rocks which adds to the slick surface. One step and your feet slide out from beneath you and you are on your back and over the edge before you have time to even realize what has happened.

Joseph “Eggy” Eggleston, 53, of Randolph, was taking photos from the summit with his wife when he fell at about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday
Officials said Eggleston and his wife are longtime New Hampshire residents and frequent hikers. They said Eggleston and his wife were well-prepared for the hike and the weather conditions.
“They were equipped with the essential equipment to include traction devices on their boots for the frozen and icy trail,” officials wrote in a press release.
