It was releveled during an executive session that an active shooter training was not completed by the Uvalde County Sheriff’s office prior to the May 24th shooting.
On Monday, the Uvalde County Commissioners announced that at the time of the mass murder, only 20% of the officers in the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office had received training on how to deal with an active shooter situation. […]
According to reports, county or state rules do not apply to individuals who are not school-based law enforcement officers, to receive active shooter training. To further note, Texas law of law enforcement agencies do not require an active shooter response policy to be implemented.
The chief investigator hired by the County Commissioners of Uvalde discovered that the elected County Sheriff, Ruben Nolasco, had not received active-shooter training during the nearly two years he had been in charge of the area’s top law enforcement agency. …

Whatta bout a Common Sense training/evaluation?
Seen it right off...
Think tailgate party.
It should be pretty simple and any LEO not trained in “shooting back” or making sure any hostages are freed as quickly as possible, shouldn’t be allowed to advance much past parking tickets and paper work.
Yes, I realize it is a little more complicated than that, but come on! They stood there for an hour and a half and listened to children being gunned down, holstered their thumbs into their belt loops and shrugged while basically saying “Not much I can do”. Any father or grandfather worth his salt, after hearing the first child shot, would have have went in guns-a-blazing hoping to save as many children as possible.
Heck, even this 60+ year old Grandma would have done it. I would have at least tried and would have been willing to give my life to save a few of those sweet souls!
character doesn’t require training
“Active Shooter Training”? I think that should follow the “Do Not Park Your Patrol Car On The Active Railroad Training”.
What do they need it for? They’re just going to sanitize their hands, right?
But they were trained in hand sanitization, right?? (PO actually stopped and used hand sanitizer from dispenser on the wall in the hallway at the school during mass shooting event.)
Is that how it works? Training…. Do they all wear diapers or have they been trained on how to use a rest room? Do they need ventilators or have they been trained on breathing? Did the Border Patrol guy who took the shooter down have active shooter training?
But they got the all important “prevent others from taking action” training.
what about a stand down order from the feds
It is a little more complicated then that.
But it is very hard to believe at this time in history.
A law enforcement department had the majority of it armed members not trained in active shooter response.
Active shooter training has been a standard component of LEO training from about 2000 or so.
In some states it is part of POST so even before they hit the street they have had some.
The county is going to pay out a lot of tax dollars in law suits.
Far more then it ever saved by not training its officers.
Something stinks about this report. Not really sure what, but something.
This report says the Uvalde school district police force hosted acrive shooter training two months before the shooting, including training on the very scenario that occurred on the day of the shooting:
This report suggests that half of the district police force didn’t bother taking the active shooter training that they hosted, including the officer who was the acting chief on the scene the day of the shooting.
If I recall correctly, the district even had recent credible shooter threats in the years leading up to the shooting, and that doesn’t even address the myriad specific and overlapping failures that occurred that day.
It seems like the blame was at one point very clearly placed on one set of people, and now that blame is getting spread around and being spread around in a way that someone is trying to make a quick buck off of a tragedy. I could be mistaken, but that’s what it looks like to me.
LE groups.
Uvalde school police
Uvalde town police
Uvalde county Sheriff
Texas DPS.
Texas Border Patrol
All it took was one incompetent school police officer who was supposed to be in charge to make this a giant CF.
Here’s the training they need: Don’t run away like little girls.
+1. Excellent.
You wouldn’t need every one of the hundred or whatever officer there to have active shooters training. Just 5 or 10 would be plenty.
