Ukrainian politician who idolizes Reagan tries to win over today’s Republicans

KYIV, Ukraine — The seven-foot-tall bronze statue of Ronald Reagan bursting through the Berlin Wall was supposed to be here by now, standing in one of the Ukrainian capital’s prominent public squares.

The monument was the brainchild of Maryan Zablotskyy, who grew up venerating Reagan in Lviv in western Ukraine — as many did in the post-Soviet years. Zablotskyy founded the Ayn Rand Center Ukraine to promote the libertarian author and covered his office walls with posters of Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill, with their quotes translated into Ukrainian.

Now a member of his country’s parliament, Zablotskyy, 37, faces the prospect that the party of his favorite politician could turn against Ukraine in its moment of greatest need — under invasion and relentless bombing by Russia, with about one-fifth of its land occupied and its economy in tatters.

Never forget, the Lockerbie bombing took place during the Reagan administration. Y'know, because that's why the latest (long overdue) arrest gets so much media coverage.

Reagan and Thatcher obliterated the Russian dreams of world domination.

Unfortunately a generation of weak leaders since then let the Russian threat reemerge.

Even worse I see no leaders on the horizon who understand the civilizational struggle and what needs to be done to win it.

“Lviv in western Ukraine”

In other words, Poland.

Nope
The very well paid Ukraine trolls (with American money) will continue to post Ukraine propaganda till they lose the war and after.

The Free Republic of 1940 would be interesting.

I do think it would be similar to the reaction to Russia today. A majority who believe in freedom and would hate the totalitarian states.

But there would be a minority who would support those regimes because they preserved the traditional social order.

Win us over? How about cleansing your nation of neo-Nazis and Bandera worship? How about reversing Zelensky’s decision to ban opposition parties, media outlets and the Orthodox church? How about booting George Soros from your nation?

Its not that hard.

Like Reagan and Trump, he would support democracy in Ukraine rather than the insane Russia attack on a sovereign state.

Reagan was a massive practitioner of arms for anti-Russian actors. He would even go agains the will of Congress to get it done.

Its a far cry from the faux conservatism against Ukraine we see too often in this forum.

I have no problem with giving the Ukrainians the means to kick Putin's thugs out of their country. My problem is with the undoubtedly billions in kickbacks the reptiles in our government are getting by shoveling boat loads of American tax payer dollars to a corrupt regime in Kiev with zero accountability.

“I smells BS. All a ruse.”

Reagan supported The Ukraine when it was part of the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union is now gone, and so is Reagan, so putting up a statue of Reagan in Kiev has about as much credibility as putting up a statue of Stalin.

By the way, the one country that the Neocons (the people who caused the Ukraine War) absolutely HATE in Europe, Hungary, does have a statue of Reagan.

For more than a year, Zablotskyy has made presentations once every other week at “the Wednesday meeting,” a coalition of leading conservative organizations led by Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, an anti-tax organization. Zablotskyy has spoken to more than a dozen lawmakers and has close ties with conservative think tanks and advocacy groups such as the Atlas Network.

How come Zablotskyy hasn't registered as a registered foreign agent?

They all allegedly worship Reagan but support Democrats and undermine the stupid party. See the attempted Giuliani’s trip to Kiev.
