For me, you left out the most important point of your comment. What kind of diesel sedan do you have?

Hysterical headline - people outside of California don’t buy cars because of what they think of California. They buy ICE cars because they are cheaper, have longer range, and can refuel in 5 minutes instead of 3 hours.

Maybe it isn’t only California but the EVs that are a crap idea too?

Nobody cares about California other than Californians- who think they are the center of the universe.

I’d recommend the 4Runner as an option.

oh yeah, it’s all about hate. LA Times should start worrying about how the citizens of CA will survive without gas and oil by the year 2030, or whatever stupid date they put out there.

Yeah, recession is a cure for inflation, and depression that follows will be even more effective. 🙂

As capital spectator says:

The standard treatment for a run of inflation that's become too hot to tolerate is to adjust monetary policy to fight the beast. Invariably that shift translates to higher interest rates, which often leads to recession.

"EVs are not yet ready for prime-time."

And probably not in this century!

They have acknowledged, however, that they can’t complete
the shift if electric cars are viewed as something
only for rich liberals in California and New York. They need everyone.

Is that what it is? You can't fix stupid.

I'll never, ever buy a stupid ass EV.

White liberal 'elites' can afford to own an electric car for show and virtue signaling - and an internal combustion car for reality, long trips and evaluations. The rest of us can't.

“ My wife and I looked at the Kia EV6’s. IMHO anyone in the market for an EV should consider them, at least from a performance/cost perspective.
But they’re too short for us. We’re in our 50’s and tall. So if we were to drive it 20 years we’d be in our 70’s trying to squat into a clown car. LOL”

Consider a Ford Mach e…as a commuter car only. Keep a gas vehicle for longer trips.

Can red states overcome their their hatred of California and embrace electric cars by lowering their intelligence and throwing aside common sense?

  1. Global warming is a lie, so the mandates are premised on lies.
  2. EVs are more expensive - w/o taxpayer subsidies it would be obvious.
  3. Range and recharging are completely impractical for many.
I don’t disagree with anything you say. AGW is highly speculative, and to the extent it happens to be real, IMHO remediation can keep up with it more economically than Biden’s approach, which in any event can’t work because China alone is stamping out coal-fired power stations like cookies, so on a global basis you’re spitting into the wind.

On the expense front, the Tesla approach has been well conceived - start with top-dollar sports cars, and migrate downscale as it becomes practical to do so. Biden, by inducing monopoly behavior by the oil companies (telling that the end of petroleum is neigh, thus precipitating the end of efforts to increase or even maintain production), has jacked up the price of gas and especially of diesel fuel. Still, reportedly subsidies only account for 12% of Tesla’s profits.

To the extent that prices remain elevated, and to the extent that a given vehicle is used intensively but not in a mode where recharging time is a problem, I can see the economics working out as long as the batteries don’t need replacing as frequently as one might fear. I can envision their being practical in mountainous terrain; if you’re climbing and descending in a big way, the regenerative braking could easily be a factor, not to mention being easy one the brakes.

The crazy thing is that by buying Twitter and exposing its dirty laundry, Musk has alienated his natural “green” base. If you give the devil his due, tho, there is a case for buying Tesla stock while it’s down. I might put a toe in that water myself.

You just happen to live in the lower third landmass of the USA where the sun is sufficient even in winter to supply most of your electrical needs. Those living in the other two thirds are not so blessed. For me, a golf cart would be enough of an EV except for the seven months of winter, where a heated ice vehicle is somewhat of a necessity. May I never need an EV, and have the means not to need one. From the upper third of the USA.

I don’t hate electric vehicles. I hate that they are being mandated by the government and shoved down our throats with no regard to the failings at this time of electric vehicles and the infrastructure. Let the market decide.

“ My diesel sedan can do 810 (Interstate) miles on a full tank (I’ve done it before). It’s as comfortable as can be as it gobbles up those highway miles. When empty it can be re-fueld in about 4 minutes at any one of about 40,000 stations from coast-to-coast and border-to-border.
Why would I *possible* want *any* of today’s EVs? ”

Do you drive 800 miles every day?

How’s that diesel’s fuel efficiency, wear & tear on daily short drives? Don’t bother, I know the answers.

An EV works as a daily commuter if your commute is a round trip of 100 miles or less. It’s going to extend the life of your diesel sedan…which you should keep for long drives.
