As long as the US keeps Russia egging on and has their fingers in it, it is quite possible to get out of hand. But I guess that’s what the US wants. Keep in mind that Ukraine in some form or another was aligned for 400 years with Russia, and Russia isn’t about to walk away from it.

If this war in the Ukraine stays conventional and the West continues to supply the arms needed, Russia loses. If it goes nuclear all lose. The real question is if Russia is losing in conventional warfare will it go nuclear?
Think tanks both left and right thought out nuclear conflict in Europe that started as conventional warfare between NATO and the Warsaw pact. Oddly both arrived at the same conclusion. The losing side in conventional warfare would go to tactical nukes as would the winning side. Both think tanks then said it would then lead to thermonuclear intercontinental war.
