GABBARD: People ‘Need to Know’ Crushing Power of Google ‘Monopoly’

Former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard lambasted Google for directly interfering with American elections, and warned that Americans should be fully aware of the extent of tech giant’s meddling.

“People need to know how much power a monopoly like Google has on directly influencing and interfering in our elections,” Gabbard said during an appearance Wednesday on retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink’s Jocko Podcast.

Gabbard spoke about how her campaign set up Google AdSense accounts in the early days of her presidential run in 2019 to prominently promote her campaign website in search results. She said she was the most searched candidate the night after the first Democratic primary debate in June 2019. “All of a sudden, our Google ad account was suspended with no explanation, no notice, no message,” she said on the podcast. “Literally nothing. Just crickets.”

The suspension continued for a period of time after Gabbard’s team asked Google why her account was suspended when it had followed all the rules in setting it up. Google reportedly didn’t respond to the campaign’s inquiry for awhile.

“All of a sudden the suspension was taken off the account,” she said.

That was the first “glaring” instance that made her question whether Big Tech was colluding with the government to censor, Gabbard noted.

“What part of your mind was like, ‘Oh, dang. That’s too bad. I can’t believe this weird thing happened?’” Willink asked “And what part of your mind was, ‘These bastards?’”

“These bastards,” Gabbard said. “I went straight there.”

She then pointed to the lawsuit she filed against Google in July 2019, “to make the statement that they shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this.”

Gabbard said she sued Google to make the point that Big Tech censorship can reach all echelons of society.

“If they can do this to a sitting member of Congress running for the highest office in the land, making it so that they are manipulating and dictating what information people see when they type in – ‘Who is Tulsi Gabbard?’ – they can do it to anyone for any reason, whether you’re running for mayor or dog-catcher,” she said.

Gabbard noted recent reports that Google’s Gmail regularly favors Democratic political campaign emails over GOP political campaign emails, marking 67.6 percent of right-leaning candidates’ emails as spam and just 8.2 percent of left-leaning candidates’ emails as spam. MRC Free Speech America has released several stories this year covering Gmail’s political email practices.

An October MRC Free Speech America study found that Google buried Senate Republican candidates’ campaign websites in search results before the 2022 midterm elections, putting 10 of 12 Senate Republican Party candidates’ campaign websites (83%) far lower on page one of Google’s organic search results (or erasing them altogether) compared to their Senate Democratic Party opponents’ campaign websites.

“It’s a dangerous, dangerous thing that is now going unchecked,” Gabbard said. “There’s no check and balance on that.”

I have a suspicion that Gabbard and Harold Ford Jr may have further political aspirations.

I have a solution that would solve the entire problem. ALL tech companies would be begging to be allowed to clean everything up.

There will come a time in the coming years when Google will be the arbiter and keeper of history. Search results become reality wether true or not.

GMTA. At the moment, I am typing this on my old BlackBerry Classic which has a physical keyboard.

When Elon mentioned starting a cell phone offering I immediately thought he should hunt down the original Research In Motion engineers and resurrect (the exact same word you used) the BB OS and devices, with the same security.

The maps and navigation was very good, besides all the other great things like physical keyboard.

When BB came out with the Priv Android I got one, but it sucked. It is Android.

If I had a Twitter account I’d be bugging Elon enterprising into doing this. Bring back RIM, and BlackBerry!

The only thing I knowingly use Google related is look at YouTube stuff, mostly without signing in.

I try to avoid anything Google like the plague.

Most guests are ex military from Vietnam to date. Heavy on special forces.
Inspiring stories.
