On Friday morning, Americans woke up to the news that Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) has left the Democratic Party and is now a registered independent.
This defection, revealed in an op-ed in the Arizona Republic, was probably the last thing anyone expected to hear, especially mere days after Democrats officially secured a true majority in the Senate.
According to The Guardian, this “bombshell defection” will have “far-reaching consequences as Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer attempts to plot a course through the upcoming Congress.”
Really? Will it? I can certainly understand why it might seem that way… at first… but upon closer inspection, I think it’s safe to say that Sinema’s leaving the Democratic Party is merely a political stunt.
First starters, this will literally change nothing. While her party identification will change, all indications are that she will continue to caucus with the Democrats. Chad Pergram, the senior congressional correspondent for Fox News, reports via Twitter that “Sinema is expected to maintain her committee assignments through the Democrats, suggesting she will caucus with the Democrats.”
Had Sinema decided to caucus with the Republicans, it would have returned the Senate to a 50/50 split, and the parties would continue a power-sharing agreement in the upper chamber.
In this respect, Sinema is independent in name only. This shouldn’t shock anyone. Despite her reputation as a “moderate” or “independent” voice, she has voted with Joe Biden 93% of the time on legislation and has voted to confirm all of Biden’s judicial nominees to lower courts, even the controversial ones, like including pro-child-sex-offender Ketanji Brown Jackson. So, as grateful as we can be that she stood in the way of Build Back Better, overhauling elections, and eliminating the filibuster, she really doesn’t bear any resemblance to a moderate.

Non-party binary?
I like her for being different from others. Elected officials from both parties are questionable in their political leanings . I can see that in the future more people running for national election will declare Independent. They then will state political leanings as well.
So am I.... “allowed” being the operative word....
I just read that she is going to get to keep her committee spots. These are apportioned by party caucus, she is effectively still a Democrat senator.
Like all the other frauds before her. all she did was join the Independent wing of the dem party.
All that means is; now you will get bombarded with junk-mail full blast, by both parties, during campaign season.
They're hard-core after that "I don't know what I'm doing" vote.
so who is the majority?
its r49 d48 i3
So now she’ll be a IINO.
I get bombarded anyway. All my junk mail goes into the recycle bin before it gets in the house.
“ By being Independent she can go both ways politically as she does sexually.”
All democrat women are bi. Polar and sexual.
will this force Heels-up-Harris to still attend session?
She (and Manchin) certainly got credit for keeping the filibuster in place, but a part of me believes that they were playing a role and actually supported behind the scenes by the dems who didn't actually want the filibuster eliminated, but were too cowardly to say it out loud. If it weren't them, the next most vulnerable dem coming up for reelection would suddenly develop an independent streak.
Never is not correct. Winston Churchill changed parties twice. When asked what that said about him his reply was:
Anyone can rat. To rat, and then re-rat, takes talent.
Is Sinema that talented? We may find out.
Actually, it means she’s challenging Joe Biden for the presidency.
With (and his chinese wife) running the republicant senators, I can see why she doesn’t want to go all the way to party switch.
I get bombarded anyway.
Oh, you ain't seen nothin'yet.
(Unfortunately, it doesn't burn very well)
So...as of this announcement, there are 49 Republicans, 48 Democrats, and 3 independents in the US Senate. How does that give the democrats authority to set the agenda. (I don’t care about who “caucuses” with whom. You’re either a democrat, a Republican or independent.)
Takeaway = The true results of the voter will not favor her without election fraud in 2024. She’s getting out in front of the cheat.
It’s actually 48D-49R-3I....I=Crazy Bernie, Anus King, and party/gender fluid Cinema.
She only made this move after it made no difference.
