I am thinking that the American Girl Co. was purchased by someone else, other than the founder, some years ago. I bought one of these dolls when they were first advertised. At that time, you could choose the hair color and eye color, and, of course, skin color, that you wanted for your doll.

My daughter has darker brown hair and green eyes. So, that is what I picked for her doll -- a Samantha doll.

I recently saw an ad for American Girl dolls, and they just have a line of dolls that you pick from; but, you don't get to "personlize" them they way you used to be able to do.

My daughter (now in her 30's) told me last Christmas that she played a lot with that doll. I hadn't noticed that at the time; but, I am glad she enjoyed that doll.

they were bought out by one of the big ones’ I think Mattel.

that happened at least 20 years ago.

They are just another doll now.

My daughter was into the American Girl stories, and I bought her a doll to reward her for good schoolwork. This was about 25 years ago.

I bought Molly for my niece when American Girl just came out. Both sets of grandparents had WW2 history. Molly came with news paper describing D-Day.
