I don’t get it. If they POST a worker at the exit that checks the receipt against a couple of the items that are in the bags, then this would stop. But I doubt they want to pay for the worker (Sam’s does it). Seems like a worker would be cheaper than the amount of the theft.

In MANY states team members are NOT ALLOWED to stop the customer from stealing, you can go to the parking lot and get their license number HOWEVER you are never allowed to question the customers purchases!! In CA. they can walk out of a store with $1000.00 worth of merchandise and even if you get their license # the police do nothing because it is a misdemeanor under $1000.00!! MANY state legislators have voted this shit into law creating this chaos!!! TheresasVERY recently an 80 yr. old team member at Home Depot who tried to stop someone at the door trying to steal a pressure washer, this thug threw him to the ground and it killed him!! So many seniors right now on fixed incomes are forced back into the work force due to Biden’s economy!!
They can post a person all they want, most people allow them to check. Criminals will just say NOPE! And walk on by.

Considering a Walmart Manager killed several people in his own store last week, I would think that the solution is to have armed guards/off duty police at all stores and at all times.

Are you serious? A Home Depot employee died yesterday, two months after being knocked out by a thug who was stealing. The cashier did not interfere with the thug in any way but just stepped out of his cashier booth to check the receipt. Now he’s dead. There is nothing in any retail store that is worth a human life. Management would rather give up the products (which are insured) than have deaths in their stores. They’d rather just have Asset Protection take the video to the cops and states’ attorneys. Much better to have the professionals go after the bad guys than task some poor elderly person with the job.
Because they always hired poor old people and the thieves were knocking them down or beating them up. The people were being screamed at that they were racists and bullied.
That idea did not work at all.
Used to be store hired security, they stopped the thieves, called the cops, and the person was carted off to the pokey.
Now many of the criminals come in packs and overwhelm security.
Punishment for thievery used to work until punishment was deemed racist.
